Default Help a new member with R888R tires option

Hi there guys, been following your job in corvett fórum, great forum!!! i have a question(sorry maybe this question is already here). I love how my R888R tires Works on my other cars and will love to use on my Z06 C7.

I have seen this front 285/30/19 stock and so im thinking to get the size 265/35/19, add for the 335/25/20 fit the 285/35/20. Any suggetion?. Do you think it till work?.

Those two tires is to much off I am thinking your will get a code & a brake paddle pushing back at you when you put the brake on r push the brake down.

275/35/R18 front, 325/30/R19 rear is your best bet, assuming you don't have Z07 package with CCCM rotors.

I just ran a set of 285/30/18 & 335/30/18. Worked great other than I used half the tread in 3 20 min sessions. Your going to need some after market wheels. Bright side is I just picked up a set of triple 8’s in 18’s for $1200 shipped. About $600 cheaper than the same tire in 19/20’s.

To manage tire wear, you can consider using 315/30/18 at the front. That size works great on my car as front tire.

+1, let us know what you figured out, and what your setup is like, including alignment and cold/hot pressures.

Whenever premature wear happened to me, it ended being either alignment issue or too low pressure, overheating the tire.

Good luck!

IMO it’s cheaper to run a second set of rims and tires for track than try and make a square peg fit a round hole.

I’m looking at 315/30/18 front and 335/30/18 rear. Will overall diameters this close work ok with PTM? I know you did a lot of tire testing in your build thread. Thanks for all the knowledge - very helpful

I run 295/30/19 F and 345/30/19 R with no issues. These tires are great!

I normally run 315/345 R7’s. I wanted to try a good street tire followed by similar sized 285/335 R7’s. I’m experimenting with set up and tire feel. My triple 8 wore the center of the rears out faster than the edges. They are still good to go, but I was shocked how fast the center wore down. I only ran them 3 sessions to get a feel as they are my street tires. I do run with no TC at a decent pace and slide a lot. Overall the triple 8 worked about as well as heat cycled out used R7. I put 285/335 R7 on after the triple 8 at the same event. The car gets slight understeers characteristics, as expected, with stock size rubber up front. The difference in grip going to 315/345 is very apparent, and the characteristics move to slight oversteer. This is with a locking camber kit and Mono Ball bushings running -2.5 camber front and -1.5 Rear.

My take away, even used heat cycled R7 have more grip and last longer a new triple 8R. At lest how I drive with my set up. No shock, but good for my brain to understand the effect.

IMO uneven wear on track used tires is indicative of other problems, like alignment or tire pressure. Especially if you run without traction control. Going to a wider tire doesn’t solve the root of the problem.

het a tire temperature gauge (or any old infrared thermometer) and take tire temp across the inside, middle, and outside tread surface of each tire and it’ll tell you far more about why the tire isn’t wearing event, then you can go about solving it by making changes in drivno style, alignment, tire pressure, or changing size in tires.

I agree, however I will not be running triple 8. Just wanted to feel them. My set up is working perfect with R7’s, so I won’t be investing time solving the problem.

The abnormal center wear might indicate too high pressures. Did you monitor the tire pressures during your runs? R888 was notorious with sensitivity to tire pressures on how it behaved. If it shot up to 40+ PSI, for instance, it could have caused more wear at the center.

I'll be testing out brand new 315/335 R888Rs myself at the track, this weekend, and will compare to brand new 295/315 RRs. I just wish we had a 335/30/18 size on RRs : )

Glad to be of some help : )

It does work. C7 in general is much less sensitive to diameter differences than C6.

The only issue that I've ever seen regarding diameter was when I tested out 285/30/18F 295/30/18R Hankook TD221s: I noticed traction control being too sensitive on touring mode. It did not impact track / competition mode, however, so it was a trivial issue for me. In any case, I've never seen any error message, etc.

Yeah, R888R kinda suck due to temp sensitivity and having crappy traction (for what they are). Unfortunately, I can't think of a better tire for a reasonable price that I can drive to the track on.
