Targa Top VS Rag Top Convertible
Just curious here folks... I am thinking of buying my very first Corvette. I love the idea of the Targa top vs the rag top..
My question here is:
Is there some sort of drag or turbulence when driving with the targa top open? Or is it like driving with all the windows down and the air simply moves around in the cabin of the car or in any car for that matter?
Thank you kindly!

Melting Slicks
Coupes and convertibles both have their own benefits and issues regarding wind. Both have various means of mitigation. I've owned three coupes and four convertibles and I like convertibles better.
I suggest that you find a way to drive both and make up your mind.

with the top off, you will get more turbulence, but it will depend on
what "you" think is "more". in the summer time though, I find that I use the solid ( vs. clear ) top more often. even though the clear is heavily tinted and the a/c runs great, you will still get a lot sunlight coming through. it still gets a bit stuffy for me.
not sure how the storage compares to convertible. with the targa top, I've been able to stow my road bike ( with wheels removed, but still in the back ). even with the top removed, you have a fair amount of space. I will be checking that part starting Saturday.
one of my daughters and I, are starting a 9 day, 6k mile road trip.
hoping to be able to some miles with the top off.
personal note, I do prefer the look of the coupe over the 'vert.
but if I was given a 'vert, would be just fine.

Bought our first Corvette 5 years ago, a coupe. Two weeks ago sold it and bought a vert.
Both had pros and cons, but at the end of the day they are both Corvettes.
First one had black interior, the vert is titanium. I hope its a little cooler in the sun!!

I've owned a C5 vert, C6 coupe, and C6 vert. I prefer the convertible; one of the benefits is that it is quieter inside with the top up than a coupe is.

I have an 08 convertible, my second Vette. I've had quite a few GM convertibles over the years, and the C6 is the best so far. With the top up it's extremely quiet and down with the windows down, you can hold a conversation and actually hear the music. Plus you don't get blown around at speed. This is without using a wind deflector. I think that you can contribute this to the shape and rake of the windshield. This is my experience with my car. I'm 5'6, and sit well below the top of the windshield, and so does my wife. Of course, if it's extremely windy, or if you're on a 2 lane road going 70 and get passed by an 18 wheeler going the opposite direction, all bets are off!
If a car model is made with a drop top, it's always going to be my first choice!
Besides, for me being in Florida, taking off and putting on the Targa top gets old really fast!
