Default Mobile 1 that good ???

My wife and I bought a 2002 Z06 at a Dealer, needed shifter and trans !!! a deal we couldn't refuse. when we started the engine it was smooth as glass (107k) no noise at all. after driving it some I decided to add a tune, for some reason it would not take ?? so I aborted !!! started the engine (cold) and the overhead rattled like mad and sounded like it was running on 6 cyl. my wife said what the h did you do, I said nothing to cause this ??? after a while it smoothed out and no more noise. well until we started it the next day, same thing rattled and sounded like a six cyl. I decided it was a bad lifter, but before I got into it I thought the Dealer most likely put in something other than Mobile 1 ??? so I changed the oil and it has been a couple weeks plus a AutoX day and no more issues ???? is Mobil 1 that good ?????

Actually Mobil is complete garbage. It's a running joke around the shop. Stuff gets thin as water when hot. Makes the engine noisy. We only keep one single oil change worth out of a near mountain of oil we keep just incase a ding-dong insists we put that **** in their engine.

Personally in our own cars we run Amsoil or Castrol Syntec.

yes mobil 1 is good.....i am not sure the two are related though. maybe a portion of your tune stuck and the system had to relearn where it wanted to be.

I read the manual and the engineers that designed the car recommend it. Others marketing the latest and greatest new chemistry claim to have better stuff.... I know who I believe.

I’ve never had a problem using Mobil 1 going all the way back to 1987 when I bought my first C4 (7 Corvettes ago).

Mobil1 was one of the first synthetic oils and it is 40 year old technology. Is it the best oil out there? Probably not anymore. More than likely GM made a deal with Mobil to only use their products.

They regularly update the formula. I would bet today's Mobil 1 is quite a bit different from Mobil 1 from the 70's or 80's. I think it's very good oil. But as you said, Mobil has a marketing arrangement with GM, so it's not like it's the only oil you can use. I've used Pennzoil Platinum as well.

They did remove some zinc in it. Many times updating a product means changing it to cut costs. It probably is different now. When it first came out, they advertised 25,000 miles between oil changes.

I hate threads about oil! Always gets me to start second guessing what I use.

i thought you said it was running smoothly up until the tune attempt? no problems at all correct?

what if your tune attempt altered the timing curve.....that could make all sorts of funny noises, and it took several on off cycles to relearn where it should be?

i do like Mobil 1 and am a big fan of it.....my cousin a mechanical engineer only uses dino oil and changes it every 3000 miles firmly believes its the frequency you change it that is the key.

so every person who uses a specific oil and changes it regularly has good reason to swear its the best stuff ever....... and every dude who changes a cam on a non roller engine who doesnt know what hes doing and ignores how to break in cams and cant get it to start right up blames the cam failure on low zinc oil....clear as mud....

Yeah I'm sure GM recommends garbage oil. It's all a trick to make the engine wear out so you'll have to buy a new car from them.

running mobil 1 in my car when the oil temp hit 200 degrees, at idle I was at 13psi. I swapped it out to amsoil and now I get 20-23psi at 210 degrees oil at 550 rpms. same weight, only difference was running a better oil that had a better filming index or whatever thats called.
