Default The Boys Are Back In Town

Automotive Mike (YouTube) caught the ZR1 back at the Ring, and there's two!

This could be the big one! Weather looks good there, good temperatures/humidity, still industry pool but it looks like the other cars in that video are all sub 7-minute cars, hopefully we get a time soon

It looked like the drivers were just trying to learn the track rather than a full-on hot lap.

I would be surprised if they took a driver that did not know that track intimately... its 20.8 km of the most challenging driving in the world. They used Gebhardt in their z06 lap time at the ring and he has extensive experience with the track. He is the same guy Mercedes used for their AMG GT R laps. Ferrari and many other top manufacturers have used him a bunch. They brought 2 cars and 2 drivers so I am guessing they are going for a serious run.

In the video it looks like they are moving quick enough to me, they are probably behind the pace of that Lambo SVJ

While that Jota will probably break 7 min, I would be surprised if the ZR1 does ( I would be impressed if it does) as only a handful of production cars have done that feat, 3 of them being Porsches, 2 of them being Lambos. Porsche have a MASSIVE advantage with the lap times due to having a full time presence at the track and their entire plant only a few hours away.

Anyway, time will tell. I am excited to see what will happen.

Looked like he was both loose and plowing tight within a span of two corners. I'm very interested in that car after seeing how *****-to-the-wall the Muracan Performante is. I love V8s, but lamborghini could create an award-winning opera using nothing but V12s on test stands.

What makes you say that?

That is the Jota, and I bet you it will break 6:50 min.

Memorizing the track is the hard part for the driver, and that's something that could make or break a run. Practice makes perfect, as demonstrated by the Porsche Nurburgring driver.

Both drivers almost certainly have every turn of the Nordschleife totally memorized, their first few runs they were doing earlier in the year were probably to get re-acquainted with the track (a lot of the track was repaved over the winter, relatively minor new grooves and bumps can have a big impact at 150+ mph) and the "slow" runs in this video were probably them getting the car up to temperature. Driving the car at 100% before the tires and brakes are up to operating temperature just leads to an early finish and an expensive repair bill.

The car was transitioning from understeer to oversteer in a single corner. We'll see how quick it is but there was no finesse happening in that sequence. That little clip made it look like a miserable driver's car.

Hard to tell but I believe I don’t see any data recording devices on the windshields.

VBOX is probably in the truck, and as for video they already have the PDR but they probably have a couple extra cameras in the cabin.

it looks to me like hard left foot braking to get the nose in for the last corner In frame.there is a lot of elevation change at that track and there are so many corners that require compromise to get the better apex coming out of the next corner it’s hard to imagine unless you see it from the drivers perspective.

thats just my guess because Lambo has the best driver running their car. Both the SV and Performente were driven by the same guy and both of those cars were under 7 min. I think the Performente did 6:45 ... and the Jota is much more aggressive than the Huracan.

i would bet your right, they won’t run a chev PDR as I don’t think it would be accurate enough for what they want. Probably have a duel GPS data logger or some premium kit

The Huracan is V10 tho

....but I agree, the wail of a Bizzarini designed V12 in a Murcielago/Diablo/Countach is a sound to die for
