Hit a huge pothole yesterday and blew out the front tire. Made it home fine and there is still enough air to make it to the tire store tomorrow. I have had both run flat and non run flat but am now convinced

If you truly blew the tire out the tire had a catastrophic failure and you don’t have any air pressure in the tire. You can drive it for a while (50 miles advertised at 50 mph) on the thick sidewall of the tire and that is the beauty of the zero pressure tire. You are not on a tow truck or on the side of the road.

Glad for you that nothing is damaged and you can replace a tire and go on having fun with your Corvette.

Had a flat tire with runflats on the interstate after running over an unseen object on 2 different occasions during the 7 years I drove back and forth to see my mother at my sister's house. Sure glad I had them.

I had a sidewall cut in New Mexico, and it created a leak. I refilled with air every 200 miles and made it home to Missouri. It was unlikely I would find a vette runflat tire on the reservation. The runflats gave me the confidence I could get to a place where I could get it fixed, and also the confidence that refilling would get me home.


So I am a believer in runflats.

get the wheel carefully checked. with the low profile tires, if you smacked it hard enough to pop the tire, the wheel probably took a hit too. Keep your fingers crossed that you're only buying a tire

I was doing research on tires as I was replacing the tires on my 2011 Convertible. Somewhere along the line, one article suggested that running a Corvette without run flats was asking for body work if the tire blew and shredded. I have had 4 Corvettes and all 4 have had run flats. To me, they are worth the extra money for peace of mind.

The fact is if you have any blowout (losing all air at once) you probably won't be able to find a tire for a day or two, but runflats at least allow you to keep going

I need tires for my 11 GS, so I priced both Michelin run flats and non run flats and believe it or not, the run flats were 35.00 cheaper than the non run flats. I didn't know which way to go, but the more I think about it, I'm going to put the 35.00 back into my pocket and buy the run flats for the piece of mind.

Maybe I am wrong, but I see the much stiffer sidewall as being counter to the overall design improving handling. The same with acceleration. Watch videos of drag racing and the flex in the slicks under launch.

In 40 years of motorcycle riding and hundreds of thousands of miles, flat tires were never an issue I worried about and I don't understand this major concern about it in a car. Finding a replacement tire, if needed is as close as your Chevrolet dealer.

The entire persona of a sports car is performance and handling. Run flats are counter to both.

Anything you eat, drink or breathe will only sustain you until you die.

Same with tires. Can’t be worrying about what body damage MIGHT occur if you lose a tire on the road. AND there is nothing that says a run flat can not disintegrate under catastrophic failure of the tire.

Be more concerned with your ability to control the vehicle should such an event happen.

I agree with the above but there is no way in hell I am driving out of state on non-run flats. If I had a local city driver maybe, but I want to get out on the InterSTATE and enjoy my car. I can drive around town in any car.
