Default Should I buy a C6 Grand Sport or C7 Stingray 1LT? (Need buying tips also)

I finally decided that I don't want another Mustang but I am going to keep my 2015 Mustang as a daily driver because its good on gas and it's my first car lol. Now I have another problem I can't decide which corvette to get now, it's between a C6 Grand Sport and C7 Stingray. I was told by one corvette owner on the forum that the Stingray is more appealing to someone my age (23). The only thing I don't like about the Stingray is that its doesn't have the wide body look like the C6 Grand Sport. I really don't want to buy the C7 Grand Sport because it's out of my price range ($50k) and I don't want to finance because thats another bill. The thing I don't like about the C6 Grand Sport is the interior is pretty outdated but of course I know its because its a older vehicle. Help please

Buying tips needed!

When is the buy best time to purchase a Vette? (I was told the winter time but not sure if thats accurate)

Where is the place to buy a Vette? (Dealership, forum or craigslist)
Also what state? (I'm in North Carolina right now and I don't want to drive more than 400 miles)

Whats a good budget price for a automatic C6 Grand Sport and base C7 Stingray 1LT (under 20k miles)?

If you are after the wide body stance, and it's important to you, and these are your two choices, then you only have one choice. The A8 C7's are having some issues with the tranny that appear to be pretty damned serious IMO, but I don't follow all that's going on with them.

I have an auto 2011 GS and it's a killer car. I don't know what you mean by the interior being outdated, all I know is it's damned comfortable and very functional.

Good luck with your search. Read and watch videos of EVERYTHING to learn as much as you can before you buy.

A quick look across the web puts the cheapest base 1LT C7 at around $36,000.

If that's your budget you can probably find a reasonable mileage, heads fixed, C6 Z06 around the same money. Definitely find a GS,

I had a 2008 1LT C6. Late last year I planned on upgrading to a 2012/13 C6 Z06. Low mileage examples were well into the $40K range. For not that much more, especially factoring the cost of a good aftermarket warranty, I ended up buying a new 2017 Z51 which is a head and shoulders (in my opinion) better car than the C6.

Good luck with whatever you do.

Any time you put a wide body car against a base car in a question like this, you're likely to draw out the "narrow body" haters. I've owned three c6s and now a 2016 Z51 Stingray. I like the looks of the wide body cars, but I've never thought it was enough of an issue to avoid buying a base car. To me, the C7 is such a better car than any of the C6s I've owned, it's not even a close call. The C7 all the way. I also wouldn't worry about the A8 transmission, especially if you buy 2016 or newer. There are far fewer of them experiencing problems than not.

It's very outdated in comparison. 10 years of tech.

I go by the old adage, "buy the newest car with the lowest mileage your budget will allow." With that said I suggest the C7. After over 30 years in Corvette's the C7 is the best one I have ever driven, and it's a 1LT. I come for a 3LT C6, and haven't missed any of the little do-dads that were on the C6. Good luck on your decision.

I'm in North Carolina also. Here's a link to a friend I do a lot of business with. It will give you an idea of prices across the generations. Just click on "Main Store". He doesn't have any GS's right now though.

I agree , I just bought my C7 and its light years ahead of my C6 as far as technology, ride , looks ....And the transmission issues , does anyone not remember the LS3 A6 shift flair issues .....

Its the luck of the draw and I took a chance. I loved my C6 and it had everything I wanted in it , it was actually hard for me to trade it in but , I am very happy with my C7

More and newer tech is not always a great idea.

Take the looks of a C7...not good tech.

How quickly we forget about the shift flair A6 and the LS7 dropping valves ..... the fan controller connection that would go up in smoke or the wonky electronics or the radio that sounded like crap .....

I take my C7 and the newer tech ....

I was pretty much at the same point as you.
I really like the wide body of the C6 Grand Sports.
I ended up with a 2016 Z51 and think I made the best decision.
Totally awesome car and had plenty of toys to play with and great power.
Mileage is around 29, so it also makes a great commuter car.

I have owned a 2010 GS convertible 1lt A6. I now own a 2017 Z51 convertible 1lt A8.

The c6GS 1lt had a manual top, the C7Z51 1lt has an automatic top.
The GS has a bulletproof A6 transmission. For the C7Z51 I had to spend $189 for an AFM disabler to keep the newer A8, capable of handling a ZR1 850hp motor, from grenading from the incredible out of balance condition stresses the V4 option in the C7 motor creates for the A8 transmission. (GM has eliminated the AFM in the newest C7 ZR1 motor, but it labors on in the cheaper C7 vettes, nuff said.)
The C6GS has a port injection motor, the valves will not crud up with oil coking if you use detergent gasoline. The C7Z51 has a direct injection motor, many reports that oil coking can occur which will be performance related after 60k miles, since no detergent gasoline washes the back of the direct injection motor valves.
The GS has more comfortable seats for long distance driving (200 miles or more in a jaunt.) And a more roomy cabin. The C7Z51 feels like i am sliding into a torpedo tube, with restricted range of motion.
The original GS Goodyear Eagle tires were horrible and wore out in gentle driving around 10k miles. (new improved tires are now available) The Z51 tires seem to gentler riding. LE unknown.
The C6GS did not offer an exploding gas tank warranty. GM, for the new 2017 C7Z51 secretly added an exploding gas tank warranty for 10 years 120,000 miles to my car (GM warranty 17469) when i purchased the car new in march 2018.
The GS has hp brakes which will dust badly. you can buy ceramic pads to stop the dust. A base c7 will not have hp brakes, and the pads will not create the black (corrosive to wheels) dust.
The 1lt GS, (not a 2lt or 3lt,) can purchase the HUD display module and plug and play after market. The c7 cannot be upgraded to a HUD after purchase.
Driving experience. Neither old GS vert or new C7 vert are allowed on public race tracks without rollcage/bars. So high end performance comparisons are moot. Every day driving? dead heat on a merry go round.
Appearance? in the eyes of the beholder. i prefer my current C7 Z51red/black/blackout wheels/signage to the GS silver/black/chrome wheels/signage package i previously owned. i preferred the one angle cut of the GS fenders (when viewed out of the drivers seat) to the C7 double angle cut of the C7 fenders. The c6 fenders reminded me of a c3 stingray. i preferred the GS round tailights/smooth back to the C7 cluttered rear end.
Car i would be most comfortable with driving without a warranty? c6 GS - hands down.
Will i ever regress to a c6GS? no. history may designate it the most trouble-free vette (in base form), but i had four of them and that was enough.

I owned a '10 GS 4LT vert and could not wait for the C7 to arrive, I ordered a '14 Z51 3LT and found that the interior quality was an improvement over my C6GS 4LT and with a much improved difference in ride and technology. When the C7 GS was announced I decided that was my next Vette, very happy with my decisions!
I would definitely recommend a C7 Stingray vs. a C6 GS as your first Vette purchase.

Default Equal Money

I'd buy the C7. We put 100K miles on our C6. It was a divine car. The first day in the C7 (now 30K mi), I knew we had just moved uptown. It is a decidedly better ride for us. Buy a C6, it looks like a used car. But a C7, it looks like the ones for sale at the new car dealer.

I have owned both and its not even a comparison, the C7 base is 10x better all around package. The wide body of the GS is not enough to overpower the complete interior overhaul in the c7, let alone the outside of the base c7 is still many many points ahead of a c6 GS IMO.

If this were my choice I would find a C7 base and not look back, plus the base still really has TONS of cool options. I have always found the best deals in winter time, but with the zr1 now out, you should be able to find some good deals on base C7 as of right now.

I owned a loaded '12 GS Conv 3LT 6 MT for about 2 1/2 years. I truly intended to keep it as my last Vette (retiring this year) BUT I made the mistake of driving a C7. Very different; the C6 drives more like a highway cruiser, the C7 drives much smaller, faster more "Miata Like" compared to the C6; therefore my current and finally last (just paid it off) 2014 Torch Red C7 Z51 Conv, 1LT 7MT....less stuff but more enjoyable to drive, will carry me into my retirement years.....happy comparing.
