Default Aftermarket mods that won't void warranty

Are there any mods you can do to the C7-Z that won't void the warranty...Looking to maybe purchase a 16 Z down the road...I'm sure a lot have a warranty left on the car, or I can purchase one...

Nothing that requires a tune ...

Tint, lower on stock bolts, side skirts, better tires, as stated driver mod ...
if you're worried about warranty you shouldn't modify the vehicle.

BMS filter surprised me on throttle response and seem a bit more power. Normally not a believer in a filter doing much but convinced this one does. I'm waiting on a ported throttle body which would not void a warranty if say it wasn't on the car.

Thanks for the replies.....May look to pick one up next season...Should be able to move both my Corvettes when I do......Not saying that 650 horse is not enough, I just always like to mod my corvettes...

Being this will be my most expensive corvette purchase by far, I would stick with the basic mods that would not affect the warranty...

Stay from anything that requires a tune or removes emissions equipment as a general rule and you should be fine.

That means no headers (remove cats) or big cam (require tuning), that sort of thing.

Default Good read

A law was enacted and correlates to your question and is a good read when you find some time. This federal act come into effect originally because consumer products were getting denied at a cyclic rate and for absurd reasons. As with everything in life, it is ALWAYS up for interpretation but nonetheless, another piece of knowledge to add to our books. To sum it up, here is an example: if you place an aftermarket exhaust on your vette then tomorrow your driver side window stopped working, the manufacture should not deny your claim. The aftermarket part has to be directly proven to have caused the failure..

The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act (P.L. 93-637) is a United States federal law (15 U.S.C. § 2301 et seq.). Enacted in 1975, the federal statute governs warranties on consumer products. ... The law was created to fix problems as a result of manufacturers using disclaimers on warranties in an unfair or misleading manner.

the manufacture could not deny your claim
There's the rub, that's not how the world works. They can still deny your claim. Now, however, using the law as a basis, you can hire an attorney and fight GM in court. I imagine that's a lot of expensive fun.

There's absolutely nothing about the law that prevents GM from denying a warranty claim, it merely gives you a framework to operate within when they deny that claim.

Consider the case where you change tire diameter in the ECM. You would have a very good argument that your change should not have voided the entire powertrain warranty because it didn't impact the operation of the engine whatsoever.

But you're paying someone $450 an hour to make that claim to a judge, so... I'd still be careful.

What I don't know is who actually has the onus of proof. Does GM have to prove that your aftermarket exhaust caused the failure? Or is the onus on you that your backyard change to their engineering didn't cause it?

From what I've read, you can purchase an aftermarket warranty (which is not a warranty but a prepaid service agreement) but if you read it carefully anything that causes a claim to be denied will not be paid/reimbursed. Meaning, if you mod the car and the mod is considered a warranty issue subject to denial, you or whomever fixes the car won't get paid by the company. If the mod has already been done and there's a record of it in the GM system, you won't be able to get an extended warranty (or maybe since there are other-than-GM-related/sponsored companies that might issue one, the claim may still
not be paid).

Has anybody ever gotten a 100 octane tune from the dealer? I'm guessing you have to have fuel delivered to your house ....Nobody has that octane rating in gas stations that I know of....

Exotic passenger seat covers won't void your warranty.

They can be a bit expensive, tho.

Yup. Some of it will come down to whether you have more money to spend on the lawsuit, than GM does.

The warranty likely won't be needed. If and when then what will break ?
Will the mods even affect it?
Never had a major issue since 1993 when I slammed 2nd and broke the 6 speed. But other than that nothing beside a bad tune hurt my lt1.

So I say mod away. If the car goes several thousand with no issue it should be good to go. The reason being the stock Z06 is far short of the Z06 with carefully chosen mods. Well worth the very small chance of a failure.

Number one was the reason a dealer would not service the carbon rotors. Said he had after market lugnuts!
