Rear brake rotor- shirt happens
Like I need one more repair to do! Coming home from the first no-rain day drive yesterday, there was suddenly a screeching, grinding noise coming from the back left of my 68 convert. It increased in intensity with road speed, so it was in the wheel/brake area. Today I disassembled the caliper on the back left, took off the rotor and found a small piece of metal had become lodged in the vented rotor and was scraping on the rotor backing plate. I removed the piece of metal, threw it into the trash and put everything back together. A waste of about 45 minutes, but at least it was an easy fix. Probably picked it up in the same construction zone that ruined a perfectly good tire on my X-5 two weeks ago with a sharp piece of steel that put a half-inch hole in the tire.

I hope you don't have the 275 front, 315 rear width combo. I put a set of those run flats on my X5...~$2,000+

No, I just have the normally expensive Michelins, so each tire was ONLY $300. Worst part was the tire pressure monitor let me know there was a problem AFTER the tire had gone flat and shredded the sidewall. I got to use that clever, but user-unfriendly spare tire storage and jack storage arrangement that the Bavarian MonkeyWerkes engineers designed. .... at the side of the busy road in the construction area. Not fun. I also thought that I would just leave the brand new spare tire and brand new mag wheel on the car- NOT. The spare is a 17 inch rim, the others are 18 inch. BMW stands for Bring Money With you.

"Busts My Wallet". I like this better. Will have to use it in my next visit to the repair shop.
