Larger gas tank for 1959
Is there a larger fuel tank available for the 59 C1 corvette. Wasn't there a 24 gallon one made? If not, any vendors that make a larger tank and still fit into the stock location?
Thank you guys!

SUPPOSEDLY, the 24gal tank was first available in 59, but I have never seen nor known of a 59 or 60 with the 24 gal tank.
I have seen a handful or 62 cars with the 24 gal tank.
This is how I carry more gas.
Or sometimes I put three 2gal gas cans in the trunk.

I am considering an extra tank in the spare tire well. 15 gallons isn't very much. I remember back in the 80s we had a customer come up from Texas to pick up an engine. They stopped at a restaurant to eat. Someone comes in and tells who owns the race car. They had put an extra tank and installed it with heater hose to transfer. It came off flooded under the truck burned to the ground.

I seem to recall that my old departed friend Dale Pearman had a white 59 FI car with big brakes and wheels, and a larger gas tank.
The 59 and 60 application had the gas cap modified so the tab was removed or flattened so it would fit under the gas door.
As I recall, the gas filer tube came right through the gas door in the later year C1s, and the cap fit on it on the outside of the gas cap compartment.

Dale's '62 was driven at LeMans in '62 by Tony Settember, and had the special center-fill large fuel tank; it was beautifully restored by Ken and Joan Hansen, and got the NCRS American Heritage Award at the 2005 National Convention.
The earlier factory RPO 488 24-gallon tank filler neck and screw cap protruded through a hole in the fuel filler door.

I gotta ask... how did they attach the filler neck through the filler door to the hose? did they do it with a longer neck and from the inside?

John;
Good info, and absolutely correct.
But I seem to recall that Dale owned a 59 that was a complete car needing restoration. I also seem to recall that is was an 270hp, big brake, big wheel, 24 gallon gas tank car.
I may be remembering it wrong, but Dale definitely had a white or cream color 59 in his church the last time I visited him before he passed.

You could drop in a recent LT1, as well as an overdrive trans and get double the mileage...

I dunno - but Ken Hansen will - he drove the not-quite-finished LeMans '62 to Dale's Hospice to give him a last ride just before Dale died.

NCRS or not sticking the filler neck through the fuel door was a bad idea and ugly as €¥~£.

Ken Hansen was kind enough to let me apply one of the tire markings on the ("L/R") car as final part of the "restoration" of the LaMans 62 Corvette.
I understand that Ken is now focusing on Rochester FI systems.
