Default 1965 396/425 electrical problem

Hello all. My 65 BB has 2 elect issues. Sometimes it completely looses all elect power, the engine dies and will not restart. I found if I “wiggle” the + battery cable I can get power back. This is an extremely intermittent problem and rarely happens. Any thoughts, suggestions would b much appreciated. The other elect issue is when I push on the the brake petal the right turn signal turns on. All turn signals, parking lights and lights all work normally otherwise. What’s up with this? Please help.I am a pretty good mechanic but this elect stuff drives me nuts. Someone once told me, If man were meant to work with electrons, they would have been made big enough to see!

It might be the bulk head connection on the firewall on the drivers side. There are two small plastic clips that hold them on the bracket. They might be loose or a broken tab. Be careful with the tabs. If they are original, they can be brittle. You can have corrosion on those terminals too.

Gerald's comment on the intermittent power loss problem is spot on. More specifically, check the bulkhead connector nearer to the center of the firewall (on the left looking at the firewall from over the diver's side fender), the lowermost left hand pin on the connector and on the firewall plug. Should be a 12 gauge red wire on the connector.

The turn signal problem may be in the turn signal switch on the steering column. If both front and back RH turn signals and the dash indicator flash that is a good sign there's a bent contact or two inside the switch. If you have access to a wiring diagram, it is possible to test each of the lam circuits individually by pulling the switch connector off under the dash.

The switch contacts can be repaired but that's usually a royal PITA. It's a whole lot easier to replace the turn signal switch.

That's all good advice except the red wire in the connector is the top left pin as you look at it. Top pin closest to the center line of the car. If you're losing all electric including courtesy lights, clock, fan, radio, etc, then that's the culprit. It feeds all power to the cabin and the fuse box. The horn will still work, but that's all. If you're sure wiggling the positive battery cable is what brings it back then I'd concentrate on that connector instead. It has to start at the battery before it gets to the firewall. Any chance you have a quick disconnect **** on that terminal?
I really think your problem is in the bulkhead connector because a loose battery cable shouldn't make the car die after it's already running.

As for the turn signal, are you saying that the indicator on the dash lights, or that the front and rear turn signal bulbs light? Does the indicator just light up (if that's it) or does it also blink? Does it do the same thing with the key off?
