Default Altanator mounting bracket on aluminum heads

So I have installed a 383 stroker/with aluminum heads in my C3 and when I went to mount the alternator I notice it is 1 inch off from lining up belt to it .I am using stock alternator and stock bracket .
Has anyone had this issue with aluminum heads .I am wondering if the heads are just shorter and does not stick out as much as the old iron heads did .??????

The mounting hole on heads are the same .

Which heads are you running? I used factory L98 aluminum heads and had no issues.

Man that sucks. One inch is a lot. Actually too much for common spacers. Maybe a machine shop can fabricate a spacer / bracket to go between the head and stock bracket.
Trace out the Alt bracket mounting surface and the bolt holes on the head with some white cardboard stock. Take that and some measurements to the shop.

Too far forward, or back? Too far back, just shim it forward til they line up. Then maybe get spacers dabbed so it doesn't look like a stack of washers. Got a pic of the alivnment?

Did you put your old waterpump on? Or did your new engine come with a new waterpump? If the new engine came with it's own waterpump, then you may want to compare with the old.

I changed from the stock cast iron heads to aluminum heads on my NOM 454 in my 68 convert and had the same problem. I had to fabricate a bracket to make up approx. 3/4 inch difference in the old vs new position. See if you can use mild steel tubing and cut a piece to fit as a spacer on your old bracket. If you do not have a welder, take it to someone and have them weld it for you. It will work better than using a big stack of washers.

The stack of washers is to find out how much spacing is needed to get spacers fabbed.
