Default Very Cool '65 Assy Line Photo

Lots of interesting details if you look closely...

Ever try to find black masking tape for the body shims?

How 'bout the coil with an orange stripe?

Not much orange on that bell housing is there?

Looks like the master cyl is just sitting on the rag joint.

Anyway, this is a shot that you don't see very often. Enjoy!

I didn't work at St Louis, just Fremont (65-82), but have collected some St Louis assembly pics over the years.

Great pic thanks!
You pointed out the unpainted bell housing.
I have seen survivor cars with orange or natural aluminum examples over the years.
Maybe this was specific to production year or how they came from a supplier?

ps I am going to adjust my rear view mirror to the same position now because thats how they came from the factory.☺

The engine is HL code which indicates transistor ignition. That would be the red/silver sticker on the ignition coil.

Also note, the cover on the master cylinder IS painted black, just like it should be.

I like how the exhaust panel/valance was painted in place then removed------leaving the bare spots.

Can you tell just by looking at the red car if it's a St Louis body or an A O Smith body?

I wonder what the worker is doing? Looks like he is in the rear body mount area.

Maybe he is hooking up the antenna ground?

Or shooting undercoating?

And they used new screws after the body drop so there is no paint on those screws.

I wonder who had the unenviable task of connecting that speedometer cable to the back of the speedometer? I bet he had small hands.

Great photo...........very informative. Thanks for sharing.

Didn't see the cable hooked to the transmission. I agree it would seem to me it would be easier to have it hooked to the speedometer before the dash went in. They must of had a reason.

Didn't the speedo cable exit the trans on the passenger side for 65?

Perhaps I'm mistaken. I thought that was the speedo cable coming down just to the left of the distributor. Anyone know what it is?

I think it's the wiring for the back-up light switch.

That's how it was on all St Louis bodies. The rear panel was kinda' attached temporarily with only two bolts during the paint operation. Then the panel was removed to then be installed after the body is dropped on the chassis.

For A O Smith cars, the rear panel was not attached during paint so the full section of the lower rear panel is painted.

Were the Smith rear panels painted on the interiors floor?
