Default Gear grinding after diff. Change

Had my diff changed out and got the car back the beginning of the week.

Now in I知 getting a very fine and quick grinding noise when I try and shift into 4th and only 4th. So right now I知 just skipping 4th gear.

But what hat would be the cause of it? Do I just need to realign my shifter. Or is this a sign of a problem with the install

I would try to realign the shifter first... the trans doesn't need to be removed to swap the diff but the shifter does need to be removed so that the torque tube can be lowered enough to get the diff out, it's possible they didn't reinstall the shifter properly... if that doesn't help then maybe there was an underlying trans issue that made itself apparent after swapping the diff?... maybe check the trans fluid level just in case, there's no telling what was done during the process unless you do it yourself

Guess I知 popping off the console today and try to realign this thing. I do think that痴 the problem bc the shifter looks off center a bit right now

Yeah we also changed the fluid when the diff was changed.

But I just popped off the shifter and aligned it best I could. Since I have an mgw and can稚 find my alignment tool I eye balled it the best I could. Going to call mgw to see about getting a new tool.

But after realigning it, it does seem to be going into 4th better now. Need to do some work on the radio while I知 in there so won稚 take it for a drive until later today.

do you have the newer mgw with the lower box?... if not and you have the oem box you can use an allen wrench to align the rod with the box, just use the tightest fitting wrench that will fit in the hole

I have the mgw box.

And the shifter hole was definitely pointing off towards the passenger. Now it痴 back to verticals and I think I got it. Everything seemed to line up how I remember when I first did this

Hey bud, this is a 4 yr old thread. You're better off starting a new one with your ask to get more buy in on responses and reccomendations.

You need to list exactly what was changed in your car that caused this. Or if it just started happening and when/during what type of driving.

As for the posts above...the shifter does NOT need to come out to lower the torque tube to swap a diff. I've done this twice myself and the shifter doesnt need to be touched. So for whatever that's worth.
