Default Car rocking after cam install

Just had a camshaft installed and the car is rocking at idle. Does anyone recommend stronger motor mounts? Thanks.

The motor mounts are not your problem, the cam and tune is the problem.

What are the specs on the cam you had installed?

Does the car have an automatic trans?

BTW ... What did the company who installed the cam have to say? ... certainly they drove it.

What company installed it?

Who dyno tuned it after the install?

Those specs give you an overlap of +10.5 degrees. That's going to get you a pretty rough idle and not a lot of idle vacuum (which can be a problem)

You never said what transmission the car has, but if it's an automatic, you really need a higher stall torque converter than what you are getting with the OEM converter when using a cam with that much duration.

A good dyno tuner should be able to get the car idling better, so at least it don't 'rock' like you said during idle.

Again, who did the install, and who did the dyno tuning for you after the cam was installed?

Yes car is an automatic. A local company here in Florida. I already have a 3200 stall converter.

Great .... That 3200 converter should work great with that cam.

If the car 'rocks' at idle while in gear, a proper tune should help a lot.

I am suprised that whoever did the install / and tuning didn't comment on it since there is no doubt that they took the car for an actual test drive before handing it over to you.

I would just bring the car back to the shop and talk to them about the poor drivability of the car ... And get the tuner to check it again (on the shops dime).

good luck ..

Hmmmmm. That cam = lope = chasis shake = super cool and super fun.

Enjoy. (And don’t forget to change the valve springs after 15,000 miles).

Mike ....

Sorry to say, but I think you put a little too much cam in your engine for a street car.

As you know, there is always a trade off ... Lots of duration + a tight LSA = lots of overlap =
big HP gains ... (but) poor drivability.

Back to your original question, Hinson has mounts that work very well with big cam cars. Plus the OE mounts tend to fail, and my bet yours have, so give the Hinson mounts a try. I have them on my car. https://www.hinsonsupercars.com/p-12...c5-c6-gto.aspx

It is hard to say if it is normal or not over the internet. You certainly get some shake from a more aggressive cam. But if the tune is really off it can be greatly exaggerated. Maybe try to stop by your local car show one Sunday morning and speak to others.

Mike congrads, I saw the car yesterday, it is awesome, he had brian tooley upgraded dual valve springs, loc's retainers etc, Your problem is the engine mounts, no way where your stock rubbery mounts are going to support that cam profile and lobe, get the hinson and it will take care of it.

Anyway his cam intake lift is about 0.598 exh .610 on a 113, 229 duration

PS you still can't beat me, with my procharged C5 hahahahahahahh.
