Default 1973 Trim piece question

Okay guys, here's another question for ya... The trim piece that comes down on the side and overlaps the kick panel piece that comes up from the floor... is it supposed to go OVER the kick piece? I ask because mine flares out and actually has a crack (see pics) where it is pushed outward by the kick panel underneath it. It doesn't look that well thought out. Is this the way it's supposed to be? PLMK. Any help is appreciated. Any pics of how it's supposed to look are also appreciated. Thanks! —Mark

That is the proper way.
I've seen this happen before to that piece.
Put a heavy piece of good quality duct tape on it to hold it in it's proper place. Leave it for a couple weeks and them remove it, pulling downward of course. It will stay in place.
Worked for me on a couple different Corvettes.

You mean glue it down and then cover with tape to hold it in position?

Is yours the original kick panel? Doesn't look tapered like my '71.

It looks pretty old and original, as far as I can tell. It doesn't look like a new replacement. Do you have a photo of what your "tapered" one looks like?

Original trim panel from my 73. Note the piece under the one in question is cracked. Just noticed this so will have to repair/replace this summer.

Interesting, thanks. I guess I'll have to try some sort of vinyl repair for my split piece.

I don't have a close up picture, but it looks like your trim is down too far causing it to spread too much over the kick panel edge. It should only be over the smaller tab of the kick panel.

WOW! Great pic. Thanks so much. Now I know what to look for. I'll see if anything can be moved or readjusted. Thanks again for your help! —Mark

Glad I could help, if you haven't done so, this would be a good time to look at your body mounts behind the kick panel. Here's a link that might help:

I can't say. I'm not the original owner.
