Hi you guys..

For years I've answered questions on this forum from everything from a gauge issue to a sending unit issue...

I've always tried to answer questions that have 0 or maybe 1 or 2 post replies and answers.... or something that people don't get into... But I thought this might be a good chance to just start a thread to ASK ME....

If you post it here... I'm sure I'll see it.. And if not, I'm sure someone else on this forum will offer their opinion…. And other opinions most welcome and if I goof up I'd be the first to welcome a correction.

On another note:

Wiper motor issues and for most gauges... the answers to these can be found by searching our tech site. http://repairs.willcoxcorvette.com/ .

Simply enter your year, then search with one simple word... "Wiper" "gauge" "temp" and so on.... If you search and read, you can in most cases solve your own problem.

I'm sorry, but the request for wiper motor help and individual gauge issue help has exceeded my human ability... I'm wiper motored and gauged out.

The help is there on the tech site.... the only issue is you must be willing to read the info and there is plenty there and if you do, you'll find your answers.

OK here's a question. Remember my soft top weather stripping will not meet the window at the A pillar thread? Probably not, anyway I was thinking about it driving to work today and remembered that the drivers side glass was replace some time in my cars life. Are convertible side glass different than coupes? Maybe this is my problem with getting the window to seal to the convertible top side weatherstripping.
My car is a '71 convertible.

I'm sorry I don't remember the thread... but yes you are correct coupe and convertible door glass are way different. You can't swap one out for the other they are that different.

The difference is the angle cut at the rear of the glass, on coupe it's pretty much straight on convertible cars the glass is kind of cut... how shall I say... forward. from bottom to top. Where is this thread and I'll take a look at it.

My wiper door just this weekend decided to raise slightly just after shutting down the '71. I did remove and refit the door over the Winter to clean up the trough but it's been working fine then all of a sudden..

It drops down again on start up..

Top tip: use your starbucks cup to pee in when you've finished your coffee ?

If the door opens, it's most commonly due to a faulty wiper arm vacuum switch at the passenger side wiper arm or a loose hose at this switch. When vacuum falls from this switch the door by default is to open so the issue is most commonly on the small hose side at this switch. It sounds as if your are losing vacuum on the small hose side and maintaining vacuum on the large hose side briefly.

You could also check the connection at the over-ride switch under the dash.... either of the two could be leaking vacuum causing this issue.

I got one, where on the heater control in the center console does the
Heater box vent cable attach? 71 non ac car. Side of the wheel lever or bottom?

1971 without a/c used a clip (4) to secure the cable to the control, then the cable screwed down to the bracket made onto the center console.

Thanks Ernie that I got, I’m looking at the third cable that attaches to the right wheel on the controller

The temp cable had a bracket made onto it that passed through the side bracket of the heater control. I'm going out of town tomorrow but when I get back I can post you a real picture of this installation. The bracket passed though the side of the control and then flipped downward... It was held in place with a small hex (non slotted) head #8 screw.

If you go to this pdf, on page 4 you'll see a rectangular hole in the side bracket (upper right hand side) with two screw holes above and below it... this is where the bracket feeds through and then you insert the screw. The cable just like the vent cables used the same retainer as pictured above.

Thanks for the answer and since the coupe and convertible side glass is so different then there is no way I have a coupe window installed on my convertible. No need to look at my tread as you already responded in it.

You are 100 percent correct, you can't have a convertible glass in a coupe or visa versa.... A year ago we had a customer that installed coupe glass in a convertible and then delivered the car to us for a softtop installation... It was actually a bit funny since there is now way to put a coupe glass in a convertible and make it fit... but shoot me the link anyway so I can take a look at it.. I'm old and sometimers kills me sometimes...

The oil pressure gauge in my 77 will not return to 0. Seems to work ok otherwise. Is there anything I can do to fix this? Right now it is out of the car and stuck on 10 psi.

If the gauge is out of the car,
Run power to it, run a ground to it then jumper from the ohms stud to the ground. The gauge should go to 0 psi. If it doesn't then the gauge is defective. In the picture below, 3 o'clock is power, 6 o'clock is ground... then jump a wire from the 9 o'clock stud to the ground.... it should read 0.

At this link there is a video which shows us testing a fuel gauge. The two gauges test the same, the difference besides the face is that the fuel gauge has a thicker oil inside and makes it a bit more un-responsive..... but they test exactly the same and are on the same ohms scale with 0 being empty, 90 being full and so on. http://repairs.willcoxcorvette.com/1...el-gauge-test/

Hopefully this counts as a real question.

I'm short and have the seat almost all the way forward. The passenger side mirror can not pivot enough to be of use. I had to place a stupid bubble mirror on it.

Does any one make a quality piece that would allow full adjustment that you may be aware of?

We'll i have the opposite issue... But a solution..might be to run the 1974 and newer mirror that has a larger head. It will fit the exact same mounting bracket and work just fine but it's about 2 in longer which may help you see over the rear quarter panel

I just replaced my glass t-tops with a fiberglass set on my '81. I replaced the ws on both. The window in and out fits great I have a slight gap at the front top horizontal edge.

Do I have to readjust my window to fit the new tops?

Why would it be so different from the way the glass tops seal?

Guys.. I'm in St. Louis and and having horrible internet issues... I'll check back tomorrow. Hopefully the issues will be resolved.... nothing better than going to the front desk and complaining about the internet and they give you a 800 number to call for a solution.. :????

hi ernie let me first say the info and detail on your website and here on CF just amazes me! the other day i removed the pass. side kick panel on my recently purchased 71 base coupe.(i am a corvette newbie!) i noticed laying above the kick panel to 3 wire female connectors taped together with nothing plugged into them.i cant seem to find any reference to them in the aim or the service manual.was something removed from the car or are they plugs for an option not installed on the car? thanks bnb
