Default 3.5” Dual Mode Muffler Project

I’ve been slowly working on some 3.5” dual mode mufflers over the past few months and finally finished up the project. All bends are T304 SS.

I’ll post up an idle clip soon. Here are some pictures of the results.

Nicely done Josh! I feel like you should just buy a mandrel tube bender already...

Thanks! Just wanted to share the project since I had the pictures. I'll pass on the mandrel bender for now, but that would be awesome.

We'll see how these function. Hopefully no drone. I'm already pretty sure they will sound with the baffles open. Deeper tone, but not much louder than the 3" pipes.

Awesome work! Do you have to pull the rear cradle to pull the rear mufflers? I may do this when I do a clutch one day if so. What kind of power gains will you see from doing this to your mufflers or is it a sound thing?

No, you shouldn't need to do that. Typically, just disconnect the sway bar mounts so the bar hangs out of the way, and as long as the car is high enough off the ground (many can do it on jack stands), they should come right out. I suspect Josh made his new slip-fit connections further downstream (towards the mufflers) to make R&R of the mufflers even easier.

Exactly. I can remove the mufflers almost one handed with the slip joints where they are. Best idea I ever had lol.

No I didn't. I'm hoping there will be power gains, but I don't know what to expect. I am near the power level of JMB's Monte Carlo SS and he gained around 20rwhp with similar exhaust mods that included headers. That would be on the high end of my expectations. I don't know, 10rwhp?

I did the mod for the unique factor, for power, and lastly for sound. I wanted to challenge myself in terms of exhaust, see what I could come up with on my own.

Any plans to ceramic coat this new mid-pipe?

Not anytime soon, unless I need to. I paid extra for 309L SS MIG wire and tri-mix shielding gas so the welds shouldn't rust. I installed some heat shielding on the stock tunnel plate. So unless there is corrosion or uncomfortable driving temps...just going to let the SS get a nice color of brown.

Lol. These were just a one-off, too much pain to make again. Maybe a 3" system

Here's some actual WOT audio on the dyno. I can't overstate how happy I am with these mufflers. Baffles are open the whole time, BTW.
