Default A/C damper problem?

I'm out of ideas, I had a small refrigerant leak and added some stop leak, then topped off charge, not very cold.

Tonight I took out refrigerant and evacuated with a vacuum pump and weighed in 1.5 lbs R134a, as the sticker on the car says, 1 pound and 8 ozs.

Test drive, A/C isn't very cold, so I got car up on ramps, looked at condenser and radiator, took top panel off with air filter bridge and washed condenser and radiator the best I could.

Also verfied both radiator fans are running, took for another test drive after 1 am, 80 F out now, and best it put out was about 62 F.

I ran codes and zero in HVAC current or history, could those damper doors or whatever they are called be mixing heat with A/C?

For kicks I turned driver and passenger ***** to hot and back to cold to see if that did anything, nothing.

If I can't get it going cold like it once did when I first got car in 2003, it had pretty kick *** A/C, I'll have to park it for summer and drive my hoopty grand am.

Phoenix is too hot for subpar A/C, any ideas?

Do you have gauges and if so, what are they reading when hooked up to the ports with ac on and car running? High side? Low side?

Ok, today was first time getting a chance to check, car in garage with ambient temp 103-105 F during my testing, engine fully warmed up (198F)and both fans on low speed my suction pressure is 85 and 220 on high side.

With a pretty decent fan on high in front of car 85 low side 195 high side.

The pressures are the same at idle, 1500 and 2000 rpm.

I was reading it could be a bad compressor or bad compressor control valve.

Also thinking it's not a fan issue as it doesn't cool good going down the road.

Those pressures are OFF... and should change with RPM increase, esp the high side..
At your high temps I would expect to see about 35-45 on low side.. And 225 ish on the high side..
It sounds like you have a weak compressor to me.

Anyway to tell what color orifice tube without opening up the system?

Looking at rockauto at 4 seasons new compressor kit that includes drier, orifice tube, there are 2 package options.

I used the Yellow one ("second design", GPD 3411296) and it works great. I think the Yellow tube is a little smaller orifice than the White tube and cools a little better.

I'm assuming the compressor and drier is the same on both kits, it's just the orifice tube is the only thing different?

I'm not aware of any compressor/drier differences among C5s, so I believe your assumption is correct.

Plugged suction port, also orifice tube was plugged, will be flushing lines and evaporator coil, new condenser, compressor, drier, etc.

This is flush solvent in a empty water bottle, see some crud that sunk to the bottom. It's near impossible to capture the solvent, most went all over the place and puddled under car.

There are 2 kits in Amazon as well: 1 for 97-99 (with a white orifice tube -

) and the other for 00-04 (with a yellow orifice tube -
). Both kits are around $190.

Now that you're working on it, what color did it have installed? Does it match the information above?

97-99:

00-04:

White, you are matching it up with the tangs on the end for using a puller tool, but I used needle nose pliers to pull it.

The white one has the tangs on the end with the screen, the yellow has the tangs on the opposite end.

Was looking up pictures in my old threads with the crud that clogged up my A/C, to show somebody asking about A/C Pro.

Searching for the pictures, I saw that I missed your question somehow, so I answered. Lol

It's cooling pretty good now.
