Default C7 Grand Sport fender bender, but airbag deployed, totaled?

Hey folks,

Been a while since I've been on here, too busy planning a wedding and driving the GS - this was my baby (as I'm sure they are for us all).

This past Friday I got in an accident, my fault (my first real accident), and rear-ended another vehicle with minimal damage to them, nothing too bad for me, but the airbag deployed.

I am still waiting to hear back from insurance company, but do you all think this is totaled? I keep hearing Corvettes total easily if the airbag deployed. I don't believe there is any structural damage and it seems to need a new front end and the rest cosmetic.

Any insights or comfort are greatly appreciated.

Cheers friends,
N

Default No advice just sympathy

Been there done that. Stuff happens, but I’m sure we all hope you get back in the saddle again soon. Doesn’t look too bad.

Regards

I would say definitely not totaled, but the front crush zones definitely took some damage to trigger airbag deployment. Those are replaceable, but it won't be a cheap fix.

Only thing is to make sure the frame was not at all tweeked. Understood the bumper cover is only thing visual - but I had a "small" rear ender with a Suburban and because the frame was just a but tweaked, they totaled (which I wanted).

The cars today are very sensitive to these sorts of hits. And there is a documented way to measure all frame dimensions (obviously I am talking about unibody dims on the Corvette).

So have I. What bearing does this have on the OP's post?

You have no idea about his situation, and neither do I. Sometimes it's best to listen rather than talk.

Certainly not totaled I’m surprised from what I see that airbag(s) deployed.
I imagine you’re going to find quite a bit of damage once the front cover is removed.
If both airbags went you’re looking a costly repair. If only one airbag went it will be considerably less.
I’d also suspect no frame damage at all since it appears you got hit pretty high.
Good luck.

Status will be determined by whomever is the official insurance inspector(s).

That's what I was thinking. I mean really, it appears as cosmetic damage. This should be an easy fix.
I've seen worse from cars that hit something after rolling across a parking lot because someone didn't set the parking brake.

Yep. Not to worry. If it's significant hidden damage they will total it, make up a lot of their loss by parting out the car. If it's cosmetic, they'll repair, replace the airbag, and you'll be good to go.

If no one was hurt, it's all good--just a minor annoyance either way.

Best wishes.

Sorry about your wreck. I am pretty sure it is not a total

To answer your specific question, no I don't think it will be totaled by looking at the pictures. But it will have to be fully examined. I would have to give it a 99% chance of being repairable. Glad there were no injuries. That's the main thing.
