1971 454 Tribute Corvette Blasphemy or No?

My search continues for an early year C3....
https://classics.autotrader.com/clas...ette/100992589
Hello again, I’m still searching for a C3. I value everyone’s opinions here and I appreciate the input on my many inquiries here lately. I’m curious what the feelings here are concerning “tribute” cars, and specifically the one listed above. ( I think a tribute used to be called a clone). Just for info, I’m primarily looking for a Base Coupe ‘70,’71, or ‘72 with an automatic transmission. Right now Texas or nearby states is best. For me, a NOM low option car is fine. I’m really not too picky. Just landing a restored to semi-restored C3 is going to be a dream come true. My hope is to spend $20-25K, but I’m willing to go as high as $29,999.
So, are tribute cars the worst things ever, the best bang for your buck, or somewhere in the middle?
Thanks!
Jstan

My $0.02: Any C3 is cool, regardless of what powers it. Buy whatever floats your boat and don't worry about what others think. You're not buying the car to please them, you're buying it to please YOU.

Purists like everything numbers matching, pay no attention to them, that car shown looks gorgeous! Buy it, like it, drive it, you'll probably never have it judged by NCRS and never want to, I never want mine judged other than local car shows, ENJOY!

Im a modder, numbers and originality mean little to me i dont invest in cars, i drive them,
Clone,copy,tribute,fake,poseur, etc etc, just labels,
To one is no better than the last, more on that in a few,
In the case of that ad car seems more trying to hype the car up for better sales, cheesy? Perhaps to some but they are being honest its not the real deal,
Pricing?
Copies tributes ect in my way of thinking should be priced example to example,
An excellent condition 69 ZL1 tribute will command tall dollars, the engine is expensive, a well made copy wont be cheap,
My 69 road racer inspired build, L88 hood and flares, most wont want it, not nice enough, too much patina, chessy all iron 454 with L88 console tag,
Might fetch what any mediocre 69 convertible would fetch,
I dont care what lable is placed on what they are fakes, like i cant afford the original starry night so i have a print, i cant afford to buy say greenwoods old racer so i make my version,
But im not walter mitty with day dreams of lapping daytona at 190mph, even on a closed track event, lol,
I like my 69 as i like my Van Gogh print,
I dont see my car as something its not, too many tribute builders do, it can be recognized by the endless chest thumping for attention and "hey, look at me, my build" cry.
I doubt purists into originality and numbers will give much respect to the tribute cars,
I would have zero respect for a flipper out right lying that some fake is the real deal,
I guess bottom line if a buyer doesnt care about the orginal mumbers stuff and the price is right on a modded car they can make great fun cars....
Edit:
Blasphemy?...um no, these are cars not holy relics

I'm not sure how far you want to look at the car ,but I can see a couple of things that need a closer look .
Both rear strut bars appear to be bent (maybe its just the camera angle ,but they should be straight )
Its got one of those TRW (aftermarket) springs on the back , that's why its sitting up so high.
Look at the wear on the clutch and brake pedal rubber , 26k miles ??
Maybe get the seller to send a lot more pics to you so you can post them here .

oh, it is absolutely blasphemy. and when i get done doing chrome conversion and LS-6 engine in my 75 convert, i will probably have a different opinion. there are enough numbers-matching cars out there for the numbers-matching people. is it a 23k car with small block and same trans?

There are "tribute" cars and then there are TRIBUTE cars.
With some makes and options it's more cost effective to get the real thing over a put together car. Something like a convertible hemi Cuda or Challenger, we are talking a difference in the millions.

It says it's a 4-speed in the written description, which matches the photos. Probably a typo on the checkbox description below. Looks like the OP is out, but it might still be decent car for someone.
The car never left the factory in that configuration. I wonder if the colors even match the trim tag. Who cares? At the right price (maybe a bit less than that) buy it and enjoy it for what it is! A NOM retro-mod. It has a big-block, a 4-speed, and a composite rear spring. Should be fun!

I say the seller is a scammer- a big block (even if it was a 402) in that nice of shape would bring more-

Jstan- if you are close enough, I would go take a look at the car. From the photos, there are a lot of plusses- tires, exhaust, paint, interior looks good. Engine looks like it was recently installed- new paint and hoses, etc. But- is the motor rebuilt, how does it run? Check the casting number and you can find what car it came out of. Check for electrical problems- cut and spliced wires. The low mileage in the ad probably is not correct for a fifty year old car, otherwise the price would be higher. Check the title to make sure the VIN matches. I paid $25k for a 1968 convert with a NOM 454 from a dealer in TX, so if everything is kosher on your car, the price is reasonable for a non-matching numbers car. Anyway, my $0.02. Good luck!

From the pics, it looks pretty nice. However, go see it in person and bring someone with you that knows these cars. Pick it apart so you know what you're getting in to, then use the NOM to negotiate a lower price (If still interested after seeing it up close). Good looking vette!
