Default How to disable OnStar?

I have searched the forum and was only able to find a thread on how to remove it the right way but the location of the Onstar module was for a Camaro and does not apply to the C7 Corvette. I tried locating the module under the passenger side dash but it wasnt there. Anyone know where the module is located in our cars?

Thx in advance.

LOL . . . If you have a smart phone, get rid of that too. Don't run license plates either since plate camera readers are everywhere. If "they" want to find you they don't need OnStar, and there are much better methods.

Why do you want to remove it?

Did you do a search here, this forum; I've seen threads about removing front and/or rear fuses, modules, etc. Of course, in the long run just don't pay for it.

I have no interest in them tracking everything on my car. Now before anyone says just pull the #27 fuse (which I have already done) pulling the fuse also disables some other features I would like to still have like my navigation and my hands free microphone.

Searched everywhere and no where does it say exactly where the module is located. Pulling the fuse does work but it also disables the incar microphone. I had the free subscription in the beginning and let it expire so I have never paid them a penny. A lot of people think that if you are not paying for it they are not tracking anything in your car.

My car is heavily modified and has never been to a dealer or anywhere else where they would log any information like my current mileage. Called my insurance last week to renew and they told me I can save some money this upcoming year since I drive the car less than 5k last year. They knew my exact mileage and I asked them how they knew that and they said carfax. How did carfax know? I was told from said insurance company that carfax got that information from Onstar. So for anyone who thinks that they no longer track your car if you are not paying for the service you are wrong. Onstar sells our info to companies who can use it. Eg, Carfax and insurance companies.

Get that in a written statement, or just ask them if you can make an audio recording of them saying that. You might be in for a payday if you have proof Onstar is selling your personally-identifiable information without your permission. (if you *did* give OnStar your permission, then you are SOL)

I suspect that once you ask for it in writing/recorded statement, their story about where they got it may change.

You seem to have nothing thread related to say, so why even respond? Are you that bored?

Yes, but I’m not so bored to be worried about what fuse or module to remove from my car to incapacitate onstar. Soooooo.....

Not a disable, but a thread advising an opt out option on driving data collection and insurance reporting in your My Chevrolet website. Fifth time with on-star, this time I never pushed the blue button at purchase new, and after about a month, the lady stopped coming on at startup asking me to activate on-star.

My Chevy app and Onstar

I believe GM refers to that as the VCIM module, which has the cell-phone board within it that OnStar uses. I have a factory service manual for my '15 out at the shop - I'll take a look at it next time I'm out there and see where they have documented the location for the VCIM.

I completely agree with the OP. Last year, my dealership signed me up for 3 months of Onstar despite me saying I didn’t want it. They kept telling me to push the blue button on a daily basis. Finally, I did and the Onstar rep said I would have to agree to Onstar tracking my driving behavior. I said no way in hell would I agree to that. If I could remove Onstar without affecting other functions, I would.

I wrap my head and cell phone in aluminium foil. Nobody notices me anymore so I'm invisible now.

In fact in China they have so many camera's on the street etc with face recognition they claim they can find anyone in minutes!

Always remember Charlie Chaplin's 1936 move-"Model Times" where they had closed circuit camera's in the John! They did not have the technology at the time but he knew it was coming! :lol;

So like a GEICO commercial, they offer to save you money and your reaction is to freak out about big brother? If this stuff bothers, why did you buy a modern car, with all the technological bells and whistles?

Unbelievable how many 50 something year olds still living in their mom's basement have nothing else better to do than sit in front of a computer and look for threads they can post comments on to increase their post count. To those who actually read the original post and had something relevant to say thank you.

And then there is Google, which knows everything about you including your location at any given time. If anything, OnStar is far more stingy about sharing info than many of myriad app developers whose products you have loaded on your phone.
