Default coolant temp warning, engine overheated

I have an 09 ZR1 and I was driving today and it was was pretty hot in Toronto . As the traffic became stop and go, the coolant temp. shot up rather quickly and soon a warning of high coolant temp came on and AC shut off. Pulled over and antifreeze started pouring out of surge tank. I noticed that the fan was not running when I shut the car off. I checked the fuse for the fan and it seems good. I waited about an hour and went to an oil change place and they filled up the coolant. Drove home with the AC off and coolant stayed around 88 degrees celsius as long as I was moving. Once I stop at a red light though it starts to climb back up to about 93 degrees within seconds. Any thoughts.
Thanks

Ever done a coolant flush and replace the T-stat? Car is pushing 10 yrs old, and the service interval on coolant flush in 5yr/50K (whichever comes first).

No I haven't done a flush. The guy at the oil change place told me about how that could be causing my problems but in the manual it says that after overheating, the fan should stay running after turning the car off, which it wasn't. That makes me think something else is wrong.

Check your fan connections. Sounds like they’re not coming on. The fan connector could have melted or you have a bad ground.

I haven't spent much time under the hood yet because I'm just happy to have made it home. In taking a quick look, I'm not sure if I can even see the connection from the fan because of the shroud. I will take a better look tomorrow, thanks

That temperature (93) isn't even that high, but I'm guessing the fan should be on at that temp though

That was after it was starting to cool down outside and I was also driving with the heat on full. When the car overheated it was around 250 F on the gauge.

This problem has nothing to do with the car being forced induction. Sounds like he is having a fan malfunction or other issue.

Yes, I just had the same thing happen to mine. The cooling fan connector most likely melted, frying the fan control module. A common occurrence with these cars. I drove to the dealership, with the AC off yesterday morning, never got above 192, until some brief stoplights. I bought an extended warranty, when I bought mine, GMEPP. It should be ready Friday. Of course the new connector is probably the same design as the old. I may try to insulate it. HTH

Fan connector probably burnt out. Very common on corvettes.

Pretty sure they melt from the inside due to the current going through them. So insulating might actually make it worse.

Correct...this failure is far more common with aftermarket tunes that adjust the OE fan settings. There's a few threads in here on how to make a more robust connection...though I wonder how many have been successful long-term.

This one from Eric E always sticks in mind...a C6Z w/ an eForce S/C, but he sold the car. https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...connector.html

OP, out of curiosity...is your car tuned?

Mine isn't tuned, and it's kinda crappy that I can't hard wire or find a better connector, otherwise I'm pretty sure GMEPP would deny, if it happens again. I did a two year warranty, after that, the gloves come off!
