Default 86 4+3 erroneous display while deceleration from 4500rpm to 3500

recently when i drive my 86 4+3 hard, which, now that all cooling issues are solved, it really enjoys being driven hard with plenty of heel toe action....

However, recently ive noticed that when decelerating from in the 4500rpm area down to the 3400rpm area, the tach drops down to 1500 and gives erroneous numbers. when the car reached 3500-ish rpm again, the display corrects.

this happens on deceleration.

any ideas? tach filter pooched?

Probably the tach filter.
mine did that last year, fixed with a new filter.

A few months ago i had my intake and heads off, when i put everything back together i found what i thought to be a better mounting solution behind my driver side head, sharing a ground strap bolt that goes to the block/transmission, then to the frame then to the negitive on the batt...

I'm not sure if related but the issue has returned!
It might be sensitive to location...

I did a direct replacement kit, replaced connectors etc with a kit i got from either corvette central, or ecklers.

Only change was to add a drop of solder to the crimped connectors.

I did. Not interested in spending more money to get a new filter and going through the same thing after the work to install. Not sure that it is necessary.
