Default Rotors - 2019 Grand Sport

While waiting for the car, I'm putting together my parts list. Outside of a BBK, there doesn't appear to be many (any?) choices regarding brake rotors for the Grand Sport/Z06 (non CCB cars). Did I miss them or is everyone running OEM parts? Frankly the stock pieces look pretty good and even seem reasonably priced for what you get.

Anyone running something other than OEM rotors with the stock calipers?

Both Girodisc and RacingBrake (RB) offer rotor options - both are better than stock in various ways. Search and you shall find

Yeah. I'm just not sure the added $300/pair adds much value. I had Girodisc for my 2013....6lb+ savings per rotor, was really happy with them. On the '19 they'll save ~1lb per rotor. For just dinking around at 7/10ths and not trying to set the world on fire, OEM are looking pretty good at this point. I don't see anything saying OEM is "bad".

From all i have read the rears save some legit weight. The issue is i think the front hats are aluminium but the stock rear hats are definately magnetic so i assume that's how they can save some weight in the aftermarket.

I agree, i will see how the stock disks's hold up but i suspect that I will just stay with the stock setup.

The gs is a really fast car on track. If you are a reasonable person that just wants to have some fun on track and understands your hpde isn't a race, brake fluid+pads, 15-50, synthetic trans and diff fluid, and go. Be ready to replace your tires immediately if you don't have any self control, as they go fast.

We have been selling DBA curved vane replacement rings for the front and pillar vane rears. They work with the OEM hat and we supply new hardware.

They are supplied with new NAS rotor nuts and I am getting a better bolt as the OEM one looks sketchy.

Keep in mind, OEM rotors are not directional, which means they will have significantly less cooling capacity during track use. I suppose it doesn't matter for street use, but even if they don't fade, for track use, higher temps always mean higher cost (increased wear on pads, etc.).

Did that again did they? Just like on the C6 Z06 / GS. I'm sure their decision was grounded in good engineering judgement

I'm liking the idea of the KNSBrakes and the DBS rings on the factory hat.

Definitely appreciate the info. Nice to be aware of the little details like this before the car is delivered

I'm running the DBAs on my C7 Grand Sport. Pad life has measurably improved -- possibly due to better cooling?

Which pads are you running (assuming stock calipers)? On the '13 GS I always used Carbotechs...10s or 12s in the front, 8s in the rear. Probably do the same for the '19 GS.

That would be my guess : )

I never had good experience with them. They feel similar to stock pads. Perhaps people like it due to it feeling familiar? They also wear out very fast.

A track guy brought me these to rebuild w/ DBA rings

It looks like it is overheating in the center of the disc. Pad smear and pretty wide cracks only in the center.

I would want to see more uniform heat checking across the surface right?

All....Good info.

Likely what I’ll do is pick up a set of OEM for the track. Run those until they need new rings, and then buy new DBA rings from KNS. It’ll be mid/late Sept before the car arrives, so by Nov I’ll have break-in completed.

Are people seeing the same issue on the rears? The C6 is so biased to the front that the rears last much longer.

Stock calipers. Hawk DTC-60 front and rear, of which I have used multiple consecutive times. Fantastic pad for the price. They even worked well when I ran Cup 2s. I don't see any reason for DTC-70s until you're running scrubs or whatever.

My rears seem to be wearing at about half the rate of the fronts (or even slower), even with the above-mentioned race pad. I have 20 track hours on the rears and they are still within spec.
