Default Photos of 100k mile plugs out of my C5

100k mile plugs from my 2003 C5.

Plugs

Plugs and wires.
Finally did it after record setting procrastination. My 2003 with exactly 100,000 Miles was running fine and averaging 22mpg with a 70/30 mix of highway and town driving and great acceleration. But I finally did the deed - it was not fun but shops wanted $250-$350 labor to do the work here in the Denver area.
Anyway, here’s some pics of the old parts just for fun. Yes it does seem to be running better but I’ll wait to check my next tank for mileage plus pedal to the metal a few times to swear to that. Pretty impressive durability.

I've seen a lot worse. Not too bad! Your wires must have been cooked real good though.

With my past Vette's, C3/C4's I found you really needed to at least change wires every 30-40K to run well for sure. The car ran fine and fine MPG still with these 15 year old parts! I am curious to see MPG of my first full tank on the new parts though, it sure seems to be running stronger but that could be in my head. Not a fun job when you let them go that long, getting them out was tough. Lots of penetrating oil and patience and bloody knuckles.

Be sure put some anti seize on the new plugs.

I did it right, believe me. Though I doubt I’ll still be around when’s these plugs are due for a change. You’ll all have flying vettes by then.

I see that posted often, but both NGK and ACDelco specifically say not to.

Yep. They say they have a special coating plus the lubricant can cause you to over torque by 20%. Makes sense.

I bought the car in '06 with 24K miles on it, so I know they're at least 75K and highly doubt the previous owner, who was more into waxing it than driving it, would have changed plugs and wires. So yes, they held up well!

Many respected engine builders disagree. Having not used anti seize and doing the plugs 50k miles later, I'll take my chances with a little anti seize going forward.

If you are changing plugs frequently, in a nitrous application for instance, I would not put anti seize on the threads every time as some stays on the cylinder head. Further too much antiseize getting built up can lead to problems.
