Default Replacing transparent roof with OEM solid roof

All, I have found a new 2018 Stingray coupe with all the options I want. All except the roof. The vehicle only has the transparent roof, but I want and need the solid painted roof.

Has anyone ever purchased an OEM roof and had it painted to match the vehicle? The color of the Vette is silver, don't know how hard this would be to match the factory paint.

Any cons of doing this, and if so approx. cost to purchase the roof and have it painted?

Thanks for the feedback.

Check the classifieds on this forum. Occasionally a member will have one for sale. That's how I purchased mine. Paid $1000 plus shipping if I recall, and was about $150 to paint it. BTW, it's also Blade Silver, and seems to be a perfect match. Had a local Chevy body shop do the work.

Do you want to keep the transparent one? You might find someone willing to swap. To answer your questions - there are no risks to purchasing the solid roof. Lots of members have two.

Do you want to keep your existing transparent roof transparent? If not, wrap it silver? I have both roofs...but, that heat through the transparent was too much for me. I wrapped it black with TR spears. You can barely see the sun through the wrap, which to me, is cool.

If light/heat reduction is your goal, there are also various aftermarket headliners made to block the light/heat from the inside.

Actually two reasons, the heat and the look. I just prefer the painted look over the transparent.

I have both the solid and transparent tops, and prefer the openness of the transparent top, but the summer sun beating in is brutal.
I bought a stiff suction cup type shade and it works but "unsuctioning" the cups is a hassle and it doesn't fold generating a wrestling match removing and trying to stow it. Bought the perforated self stick vinyl version and it works well, but at $50 it is waaay overpriced.

Also check Ebay, though prices there seem to run higher, I think.

On my C6 I said I will buy the car but I want glass - they traded with another cars roof they had in inventory - didn't want to loose sale - silver definitely looks better with solid roof imo - heres a deal for yah - body shop should have no problem matching it

Where are you located? I have a blade silver 2017 and would be willing to swap if you were interested.

All good info, thanks, I did see in the classified section where you can order a new carbon fiber/painted roof.

that's a great solution...I just bought a "static cling" internal roof liner from Mid America Motorworks (www.mamotorworks.com) for my transparent roof. It blocks sun/heat very well and can come right off in the other 8 months of cooler weather then right back on the following season. Its simple, looks great and still lets some light through - but probably 85% less. I have no vested interest; just letting folks know about my solution.
