Default Non powered antenna on 64 corvette will not fully retract down to the fender.

Is the antenna supposed to retract completely?

It doesn’t on a 63 and I bet the 64 is the same. About 14”-15” sticks up.

I’m thinking 65-66 only got a power antenna.

The nonpower 64 antenna does not collapse to the height of the fender.

My '64 coupe. I am not sure, but I don't think power antenna was an available in '64.

Yeah mine does not either, I bought a power one that fully retracts to fix that issue.

If you go this route, be careful. All the power antennas being sold by the big boys didn't fit my 64. Frame got in the way to prevent the staff going straight up, no matter how you tried to twist or position the unit. Finally found a smaller unit which has a 3 piece staff vs the typical 2 piece one. works fine.

These antennas were made before antennae breaking became a fad.. I bougth an aftermarket fully retractable manual antenna for my '61 in the late 1970s.

Thanks Frankie. Saved me from forcing it down and then buying a new antenna.
