Z06 M7 Shifting 1st gear to 4th
Does the C7 Z06 have the 1st to 4th gear shifting safety or whatever this feature is called?

Yes. Skip shift. It doesn't engage much the way I drive.

Get over 20 MPH or about 2500 RPM. It's pretty easy to avoid.

Is there an inexpensive plug-in skip-shirt eliminator, like there was for the earlier Vettes?

Here you go. It's so easy to avoid I don't have it. You'll still get the message on the dash and that's the only annoyance to me.

Here's a nice video explaining how to drive around it

For whatever reason it doesn't affect me much. Probably because gear ratio is so high you get to a high enough speed that it doesn't engage. On my Camaro's it is more annoying so I did skip shift eliminator on those cars, but not needed on the Z06.

CAGS forces you to shift from 1 to 4 when accelerating at a slow rate like in heavy traffic. It will force the shift at speeds between 14 and 20 mph. However, if you are a little aggressive on the throttle (similar to driving in normal traffic away from a traffic light) it will let you shift to 2nd. You can also shift before 14 mph to get into 2nd. The engine can easily handle running in 2nd at 10 mph. If you forget to follow the CAGS rules as the gear shift moves toward 4th gear shove it slightly into 3rd gear and immediately pull it into 2nd. It is an easy quick move to get to 2nd.

I had a shop install my skip shift eliminator harness. Costs me like 25 bucks i can't remember. Shop said it took all but 5 minutes to install. They were installing my borla xpipe anyway so i had them do it.
The skip shift was annoying.

You really have to be lugging it for Cags to rear it's ugly head. I just never felt that it was that intrusive. Never felt compelled to buy a Cags eliminator on any newer Vette I've owned. Just get the revs up through the Cags zone and then shift.

First mod I did on my Z06 was installing the skip shift eliminator. I know that it would rarely engage as it requires a very specific situation, but once is too many. If you drive in slow traffic at all, you will hit the skip shift every now and then. $25 and 5 minutes to install (after lifting the car up to get at the trans)...definitely worth it. Been driving the car 3 years now and the eliminator has worked flawlessly...every now and then I see the skip shift message but it never engages.

Why bother with the various ways of "driving around it", when for 20 bucks, you can have it gone forever?

I don't personally have any issue with going around it and even using it on occasion. If there was a way to get rid of it along with the annoying message on the dash it would be worth $20. For $20 now it would do nothing for me.

I had my skip shift eliminator for like 15 months now. I never seen the message once. What year is your car?
