Got my Z06 a few weeks ago. Blown away every single time I drive.
-My first manual car, still getting the feel for her. Making really good progress.
I am looking for recommendations for some new brake pads as mine are a bit worn down and starting to squeak a bit.
* I believe the squeaking is due to them being worn down, not 100% sure
I will also need some new tires by the end of the summer, looking for all season in case I get caught in a rainstorm or something (hoping to avoid driving in rain)

Here is the mod list for my car:

Nice build. Your car could benefit from some LT's with larger primaries...2" or 1-7/8" at a min. As for brake pads, street or track? If street...Carbotech 1521 are fantastic street pads, no compromise in performance with very little dust...but they are on the upper end of the pricing spectrum. Powerstop Z26 I would describe the same as the Carbotechs...a very close second, but at significantly lower cost.

If it has all those mods, it may already have aftermarket pads. Check before you purchase. Unless the squeaking bothers you, then carry on.

Welcome to the C6ZO6 world! Sounds like you got yourself one hell of a car. With everything you have on your car, LT would make everything work better. After the headers, then get a new tune. Also, take your time getting used to your car. If pushed hard, they can get away from you, especially if your tires are worn or old.

And finally:

Great info on the brakes thank you!
She’s got 1 3/4 Long Tubes at the moment
I’d love to hear her with bigger ones. It’s on my list of things to do down the road.
I apologize for the crappy photos! I will get better ones soon!

Nice man! I bought an ‘06 Z a few months back, blk/blk, are those painted/powder coated OEM ZR1 wheels or reproductions? Big fan of the ZR1 wheel or “ZR1 style”. This forum is awesome, lots of solid dudes with a ton of info about basically everything C6z. This being your first manual has got to be either really awesome or just plain terrifying. Welcome to the club brah.🇺🇸

Nice,

I learned how to drive a manual transmission in my Z06. What you end up finding out is the high horsepower cars are more forgiving to someone just learning. The clutch depression/gas timing doesn't have to be as perfect as say a car making less torque.

However speed and the linear way the LS7 delivers it can be quite deceptive so you will have to be very conservative with braking distances while slowing that monster down.

The stock brakes build a lot of dust. I went with the Power Stop Z26-1185F and couldn't be happier.

Beautiful build, now I'll have to watch for a black Z when in WB.
Couldn't have acquired it locally, did you? Head Z06 wrench at Heiser owned a black '08 Z, was it his?

LS7 is a lot as-is, just had heads/cam & tune done on mine but significantly less HP/Tq than yours.
A real tiger there so as others have suggested take some serious time learning it sways. especially if not used to this kind of power.
BTW, any particular place in mind for doing required work if not a DIY?

Congrats on a sweet low mile '08, built to the hilt.
See a JSB '08 in town that'll be me, only 1 like it in area I know of/seen.

Thank you all for the advice and tips! Really great stuff, that's why I joined this forum. Cheers!

@73DBG They are OEM, love them. The 12"s in the back give her an insane stance.

@SocalChvy You have any squeaking with the Power Stops?

@Landru You will have to let me know when you are in town! I'll keep my eye out for ya. No, not locally, I got it from a guy in IL.
So you gotta check out Late Model Throttle, great guys who do some top notch work, they are down in Waukesha.

I'm through WB randomly, live in Wayne off W 3 mi N of Cross Roads/Jugg's at D -- assuming you're familiar w/ Kohlsville.
Whenever in WB I'm either leaving cigar store on Main heading to cruise Fond du Lac's fabulous backroads around Long Lake, or coming back.
Retired life, y'know.

No, not locally, I got it from a guy in IL.
Thought so, it's one thing to see a Z06 around here and quite another a build like yours.

I've heard of the outfit, a member I knew here had them do a SC on his LS2.
As I said see a JSB Z wave me down, I'll do likewise since there'd be only one blk Z, yours.
Would enjoy seeing your bad boy, and if out in the country watchout for turkeys, they're on the move w/ broods.

Enjoy! I got my H/C/I/E 08 Z06 last year and couldn't be happier with it.

I had the squeaking issue on the stock brake pads as well. I replaced them with Power Stop Z26 pads. No more squeaking and it drastically reduced brake dust. The bite is slightly reduced from stock, but that is to be expected. Highly recommended.

Brake pads are in! Can’t wait to put them on.
As far as Long Tube Headers, what recommendations do y’all have for larger diameter ones? And what’s the largest diameter you can go?
Cheers

ARH 2” will be a pretty popular suggestion here.

Personally I’m unsure, but I don’t think they will mate up to your LG X Pipe. Might have to buy the headers and X-pipe... delete the cats for some more ls7 feedback IMO.

Nice ride! Just a bit north of you in Fond du Lac. Had all my work done at West Bend Dyno. Did you find it locally??

@VelocityC6z Awesome thank you!

c6z06andy We will have to meet up! No sir, got it in IL.

Also, I want a taller shifter, the stock is not high enough for my taste. Recommendations?
