1990 zr1...... 7k. SOLD***
Ok long story short i have a 90 zr1 clean title no accidents for sale. I bought it a few months ago and was going to fix it up. Turns out im a little in over my head. I bought it and it was running bad, took plenum off and replaced 2 coils gone bad, injectors looked ok and tested good put new spark plugs and map sensor in (was getting a code) put it all back together and it ran like a beast, at this point i was going to keep it but i started to notice a little blue smoke after it warmed up, i thought it just needed to be blown out and driven so i drove it a little and it still smoked from the passenger side exhaust only .
so i got to thinking and asking zr1 experts that i know so i changed the oil and took the plenum back off to see if anything looked weird, tightened some bolts down under the plenum and replaced the pcv valve hose ( it was very very soft) put it all back together and it still smokes. Im going to do a compression test later on that side but the car runs smooth and doesnt miss. Only other thing i can think of is it could be a bad cat? Anyway im at the point i cant do anymore to this car my skill set is maxed. So im going to take the hit at 7k and i think its worth every penny ive never seen one at this price and ive been looking for a while. Cosmeticly the car is average has some rock chips and places here and there. This will never be a show car. Interior is decent with normal wear in the usual spots. Radio doesnt work, tires are shot and wheels need refinished. Please text me for more questions. 615-516-1918. Im 30 min north of Nashville.

My understanding is that the '90 engine didn't have valve seals, and some smoking is normal. I almost picked up a very cheap steel blue car years ago that everyone was shying away from because of this. Do a compression/leakdown test and if the bottom end is ok, drive it and enjoy.

you may laugh at this but I had an iroc camaro back in the day that smoked a bit. It had been stored for a couple years. It turned out to be a nest of mice and even baby mice in one of the mufflers. The exhaust (at least on a non zr1) comes together at the cat so if one side had bad valve seals both pipes would be smoking. First thing I would do is to remove the muffler from the smoking side and see if it still does it. That is unless a zr1 has separate cats for each side and no y pipe ect that connects them.

Lloyd, I bet that had a nice smell to it LOL. The ZR-1 does have a R & L cat but if unmodified is just like any later C4 with a resonator midway, but it still has two pipes running thru it so it would be possible to smoke out one side my guess would also be valve seals proper diagnostic would need to be done.
