Please see the attached picture, it is hard to see. The Engine Code as follows; V0407 which in line of the build date of the car. CUT; 1978 350 a/t L48 185. The vin stamp has the 18 then a space and then the last 6 of the vin.
Thanks

Mistakes on engine pad stamps (and other stamps as well) are not that rare.
They did not happen every day, but they occurred often enough that we have come to expect / accept them.
The rest of your pad looks fine.
I would not worry about it.
But, check the VIN derivative stamp on the transmission and see what it looks like.

Thank You,
The trans is fine, I also check out the following part number and date code; carb, alt, master cylinder, starter, distributor, wires are dated coded 1st qtr 78, and diff all is correct. I also have a ton of documentation that came along with the car.

Engine, trans and frame stamped with same stamp by same guy at the same time. So they SHOULD look the same.

It's also possible that the S in the gang stamp came out really light and just isn't visible in the pic. It might actually be there and probably is.

[QUOTE]I only see five characters for the consecutive unit number (looks like 90391 in the pic). There should be six characters.
There is 6 the last digit is very light but if you look close in the picture you could see the seven.

Yep. I deleted my post after I saw what looked like the 6th character.
