Cup Holder made from materials lying around the garage
Did not want to shell out the dough for a cup holder. Looked around the garage and had some old materials lying around. Took a cup holder I had for my boat, spray painted to match the interior. Had some pine boards lying around, stained them and used them to make my cup holder without having to spend any $ except for the three dollar sticker from eBay.

Not a fan, but peeling off the cheap sticker would make that thing look much cleaner, IMHO.

Pretty cool!! I second removing the decal for a cleaner look. And maybe reconsider the wood finish to match the carpeting for a more subtle look.
Still looks pretty cool!!

Actually good ideas. I think I will match the box to the carpet! Just messing around trying to figure something out..

Pretty good job on the DIY project. I agree that painting the box to match the carpet would be a good look.

Nice.. and I agree with you on the "Shelling out the dough" The OUTRAGEOUS price of those style of cup holders is what prevents me from buying one.
$95.00 ? I mean come on...Really ? I won't mention the vendor but that's the price they have listed.

I've seen a couple other DIY cup holders on the forum, but this is the first one I've seen where it's positioned between the seat backs. It seems like a good idea. Have you taken it for a "road test" yet?

I think it is a cool idea. I agree make it look like the carpet. I just wonder about how hard it is to access when driving.

Nice idea, however I wouldn’t want my coffee or water near my shoulder. I know these type of holders carry the typical Corvette Tax, but I really like the Double Travel Buddy I bought over 10 years ago. When you average the $50 cost over a that period of time, it’s easier to justify the expense of a well-designed product. I’m mostly a water/coffee guy so it’s worked well for me.

Same here. I wanted my cups where the cup holder is, so I bought the perfect gadget. Holds 32oz beverages rock-solid in place. But, the OP only invested $3 on top of his original boat cup holder price, and this did cost me $20.

Too hard and awkward to reach and if you have a spill, that's going to make a big hard to clean mess, much worse than spilling on the floor mat.
I have one of those cup holders that SG Lou posted, bought off a forum member, and they are very hard to use and I never put a drink in it unless it's in a tightly sealed-top container. And not for something I want to get at frequently, it's way easier just to keep the sealed container lying on the passenger seat.

I had plenty of extra spray paint lying around from other projects so I took the advise and matched the box to the carpet. I decided to paint over the decal in an attempt to have a subliminal logo showing. Does look a lot better! I like my drinks stuck in a nice thick koozie I have no issues with spilling and reaching it is not hard, just have to use the holder closer to the passenger. I like the box because I can fit a bunch more cd's until I upgrade the head unit one of these days. On to the next project of refinishing the lexan targa top,

That's MUCH better.
Anoher other choice is to spray the tray black to blend into the rear carpet, and put a piece of black felt or carpet, inside instead of the beige rubber pad. You could also make it wider behind the cup holder to fit more "stuff" in there.
But, like I said, it's much better now.
