Turned down offer on Z06
I drove drag cars in NHRA for years, my first was a Vega powered by a small block, the Vega would run 9.40's at 140 and change. My next car was a Z-34 Lumina with a 540. On a good day that car would run 8.45 at 165. Both of these were tube chassis dedicated race cars. and ran Super Gas and Super Comp 9.90 and 8.90 index classes respectively, using a throttle stop and weather station to dial my timers and run the number.
Fast forward to last year. I moved up from a C-5 coupe to a LT3 Z51 Stingray. I had made arrangements with my financial institution to transfer the funds to complete the purchase, and after the paperwork was done the salesman drove me across town to do the transfer in a Z 06.
Transaction complete we are heading back to the dealership and he's going through the gears, pulled into an isolated industrial area, looks over at me, nudges my elbow, and says " what do you think, want to drive it? " I told him no not really I've driven much faster cars than this before. It took him a second to digest what I had just said, and with a totally blank look on his face he pulled back slightly and said " you have? "
The look and expression on his face were priceless, I bet I was the first guy to turn down that offer.

Have heard that story a number of times. They tell me they have had quicker cars that have turned low ETs and high mph numbers in the quarter. Then I tell them they will be going through some corners at triple digit speeds and experiencing hard braking from high to low speeds. They say no problem I am ready. Three or four laps later the car is stopped in pit lane with the passenger door open and them outside bent over ralphing.

NONE, that's why I had REAL race cars and drove them where they belonged. I don't need a gazillion HP to navigate the streets and highway of my area. Further more I have a couple of very quick boats that more than fill my need for speed without breaking the law or putting another in danger of injury or death.

Still not sure why people think the Z06 is a strip car. It shines in the curves and is so much fun. It also looks great while doing it.

Exactly Bill. Pulling a few g's in a straight line on a 1/4 mile track just isn't what it use to be for me. A good weekend in the old days was 10 X 10 second runs for a total of 100 seconds of track time. Now a good track weekend is 8 to 10, 30 minute sessions for 5 hours of track time. Navigating the uphill essess at VIR at over 115mph (125mph if I had the skill) is way more of a thrill for me.

You think?
I would say the boat looks 30 years ago and V-8 Vegas could be even older! Have a great time in the C7 you will wish you bought the Z06 in no time!

These comments are going all over the place. I do like your red 62 409...at least it looks good on your page. As far as the Z-06 is concerned I would have driven it in a heartbeat. It's not every day someone offers a person a chance to run a Z-06 through the gears.
