Vert owner needs help..flapping thing
Whats up with the flapping thing behind the seats when I drive with my soft top up and windows down..ok I see it protects the cover somehow..but man the thing goes nuts with the windows down at speed.I wonder how do you experienced droptop owners deal with the nuisance ??
all ideas greatly appreciated

I have a 03 vert and I don't know what flappy thing you're talking about.
Go ahead and cut it off if it's bothering you. I'm sure flappy things are pretty cheap if you need another one

I DONOT have firsthand experience with this but I have heard that the rear window is more likely to "tear" out of the top with the extra stress on it. Again I have no firsthand experience!

I knew I'd get some good answers..and laffs !!
OK seriously I'm talking about the cloth cover over the convertible top lid, under the rear glass inside the car. At any speed if I open my window it immediately blows upward blocking rear-view and at good speed becomes a "flapping thing".

I got a good idea why it's there (to protect something. or maybe glare ??)..I am very surprised more vert owners haven't noticed the "flap"
Open your windows fully (top up) while driving. At any speed over about 30 mph my flapping thing goes nuts and I have to put my windows up.

If you begin to put your top down but stop at the point where you push the button to raise the panel over the top storage area you will have access to see that flap. It has several elastic bands sewn in that are plainly visible. The will have become stretched and have lost their elasticity. You only need to replace the ones that put side tension on the flap, not all of them. I went to my local sewing supply store and purchased some elastic band for a couple of dollars, some upholstery thread and a set of curved needles. I cut out the old elastic off the top, stretched a piece of the new elastic to be the same length as the old piece to get the proper length and carefully sewed it in the same place as what I removed. Less than 6" of elastic band is required and an hour or so of time to get rid of that annoying flapping sail behind your head. Well worth the cost and time!
