I took #2 ZR1 in to have the oil changed and tires examined for wear, surprisingly 10,000 miles and plenty of tread left. While at the dealership, I was introduced to a fellow who has 6 Corvettes and a new GS. His purpose today was to put his deposit down for a C8 and he was #3 in line. I find it interesting that deposits are already being taken. It is going to happen!

Depends on the dealer. I know some that are at 100+ deposits but will probably get that many cars easily.

Dealer will take your money regardless; why not? I would only put a deposit down at a reputable dealer who I know will get plenty of allocations. I remember C7 people who gave their dealer money when the dealer knew full well they wouldn't have many, if any, allocations. They were dragged along with their dealer offering all sorts of excuses for months while other people were getting their cars.

By all means, put a deposit down if you want to be one of the absolute first. I will be ordering mine when the go-fast version comes out like I did with my C7. . . or might wait for the super go fast version. . . Still waiting for more info

I contacted my sales person a few months back about putting a deposit on a C8. I've purchased a new C6 from him, and ordered a C7 which was delivered in just under 7 weeks so no allocation issues at the time (was a top 20 dealer). He told me he's been taking deposits for 4 years now on the C8 and right now doesn't know if he has enough allocation. Tells me his dealership might have fallen out of that top 20, and I plan to make inquiries elsewhere.

Put my deposit down with my home dealer early this year for their first allocation. Deposit refundable based on cost being above my comfort level, or it looking like the Pontiac Aztec.

If I remember correctly the C7's chief designer was the same guy who created the dreaded Pontiac Aztek and the C7 turned out pretty well.

As in most things it is management that screws things us not the engineers and designers who at a large corporation like GM are world class.

Your right about the designer. I don't know what he was on when he designed the Aztek, but he obviously got clean by the time he started the C7.

Let's talk reality here. A deposit is a good faith gesture to purchase an item in the near future. Can you buy a home without a deposit. If dealers did not take and hold a reasonable deposit, too many people would place their names on a wait list just to gain bragging rights. If you really want a car and you want it timely, don't be afraid of making a deposit. Make sure you have a paper that states the conditions and you have no worries. I have never held a deposit that someone asked to have returned. Without deposits, it would make serious buyers crazy.

I been on the list since Jan 2016. No deposite as the owner & GM knows me and I have purchased many cars from the dealer. I am # 3, just checked yesturday .

I have no issues putting down deposite, it just has to be refundable as long as the car I am ordering is nothing crazy (strange color or something the dealer could not sell ASAP).

The dealers love the interest money they are making on all these deposits and then the market adjustment on the price when the cars arrive.

The last time I played "get on the waiting list game", I made damned sure I had it "at or below MSRP" to make sure none of those stupid market adjustment games were played.

My impression is that Dennis Tap and Les Stanford did right for me on my C7Z purchase. No screwing around, the "out-the-door" heavily-discounted price quoted on the internet and over the phone was exactly what I paid. No attempt to jack me around when I showed up prepared to pay and drive away in the new car.

Same thing when I purchased my new C5 there (I skipped the C6). Warranty repairs on the C5 were taken care of without hassle, even things which were arguably pushing the boundaries of the warranty contract language.

I will go back there again, even if it costs me something like 5% more to purchase there than from the least expensive dealer in the nation, and I will ask for Dennis Tap again. I don't much enjoy playing games with wannabee buttfucker sellers

Of course, there's a small market for a C8 in that price range. It's about 2K a year as evidenced by ZR1 sales, but perhaps initially a little higher for a new big dog C8 ME. Those are exactly the type of people that would put a deposit down years away from availability because they have to be the first.

Dont think anyone needs to be first. I can only answer for me, I’ve been blessed and /or lucky, have no other expensive hobbies and won’t wait for tomorrow.

Life can change in a heartbeat, and no one is promised tomorrow. I just don’t want to say should of could of oh shucks.

But if it does not appear by mid summer I believe I will move on to something else for the above reasons!

But I don't think that is a fair statement. Chevy hasn't released uncontrolled allocations of ZR1s, they have tightly controlled the number being built. Who's to say that the number wouldn't be 3000 if they increased the allocation to 3000? Or higher?
