MPGs on long trip?
I just filled up and was able to calculate my gas mileage on my recent 500 mile trip in the '61.. I averaged 17.5 MPG.. I was kinda surprised it was that high. This was 90% highway doing 65-70 mph, with the hardtop on. My motor is a 350 LT-1 with a single Carter WCFB. 3 speed trans.
What kind of mileage are you guys getting?

Gas mileage stories always crack me up. They are like fish stories always about the best not the average. If you really want to know what you mileage is keep track of it for the whole year with all types of driving rather than just sustained highway cruising. Both of my old Corvettes get around 12 mpg around town.

My 57 with 350 and dual wcfbs gets 13 mpg, town or highway. I recently drove a 250 mile trip hoping for better, but with 3:55 gears I was running about 3k+ rpm all day. Best I ever got was 15 - must have been really good gas!

That is more like it in the real world. I don't buy Corvettes for mileage but rather the power and fun I have with it. If I wanted mileage I would buy a newer one and have both but that only happens with the new ones if you keep your foot out of and who wants to do that?

I totally agree with you-power and fun with these old cars. With an 850 holley and a cam with 332-336 ,110 lsa ,900 rpm idle, I am happy with my millage and power. ( in town 12-14 mph)

My 67 has a ZZ4 350, 3.36 axle and Tremec 5 spd. That all equates to 2000 rpm at 70 mph, and around 22 mpg on a long trip - which is what the OP asked.

I have kept a spreadsheet since 2005; plug in the numbers into the table and all is automatically calculated and updated. individual mileage figures are always suspect as a lot of factors influence how much you put in each time you fill; but overall average (or at least a series of data from a single long mileage trip) is a true representative
$10,273.82 Total Cost
3,287.57 Total Gallons
59,941.00 Total Miles
18.23 Total Avg. MPG
$3.13Avg. Cost per Gal.

On my 48 State trip of 20,000 miles in 2010, I averaged 14 mpg with a 3:70 rear.

'62 with C4 suspension, 3.08 rear, T-56 6 speed, RamJet 350 (tuned for mileage). 22-25 mpg around town, 30-32 strictly interstate driving.

Last June on a 650 mile trip, my '66 coupe averaged about 16 mpg. The car is all stock, L79, 4 speed, factory A/C - which I used!, 3.70 rear end.
Driving in and out of heavy rain running between 2,600 to 3,000 rpm, tires were at 35 psi. I was happy with that.
