Can't stop laughing...
So I get an email earlier today from Hennessey Performance... with a video of their modified ZR1 doing a 0-193 MPH pull.
CORRECTION: This is actually a stock ZR1 not the Hennessey modified version.
Well I have to tell you I couldn't stop laughing because I was able to literally watch THE GAS GAUGE DROPPING as they were doing the pull. I'm the first to admit that it takes fuel to make power... and I already know that my ZR1 is not the most fuel friendly beast, especially when I'm on track and pushing WOT on the straights... BUT... I'm not sure I want to own something that I can literally watch the gas gauge dropping as I'm accelerating. Right now at WOT I don't see the needle dropping... but apparently the Hennessey mods do just that. Frankly the gas tanks NOT big enough.
Anyway... just wanted to share as I suspect I'm not the only one who will find this amusing.

Why does the rpm indicator bounce around a bit?

If that was the case then it would have moved back a bit when the car stops accelerating and he slows down from 193 to less than half that speed (g-forces reduced or eliminated). Instead it remains rock steady so that’s not the explanation.

It is laughable to watch the needle dip, but with the utmost respect to you, good sir, this video is of a stock ZR-1. (see the youtube description). I do agree with you, however, that whatever mods Hennessey makes to the car, will drain that tank more quickly. Enjoy your BEAUTIFUL car!
I knew my car was bad but never saw the needle move right in front of my eyes.
That Hennessey package better include an auxiliary gas tank then.

5-100mph in 9 seconds?!?!? Isn't that slower than a stock ZR1? Thought it did 0-100mph in 6 flat with a good launch and the A8. I would think the rolling start would lose maybe a second from that.

Looks closer to 6 seconds to me. That car is freakin fast!

Way back when I was a little kid on a school bus, the bus driver who had a 409 Chevy told us that he could see the fuel gauge going down when he "got on it".
Later, I had a couple of 409 Chevys, and don't have any reason to doubt that.
But this isn't something unique to 409 Chevys. Power costs fuel. Some methods are more efficient at doing that than others.
That said, I'm much more fond of concentrating on the road when driving fast, than monitoring my fuel level gauge.

- I didn't rip the vid to count frames, but it looks like 14 - 5 = 9. At absolute best it might be 13 - 6 = 7, which would basically be a stock ZR1. So no, there is nothing to brag about in that vid as far as I can tell.

X2 on the 409 drinking gas. 63 Impala SS factory 409 that was then built with cam, headers and factory twin 4 barrel carbs would drink a tank of gas in about 60 miles. That was not wide open either. lol Seemed like you could watch the tach go one way and the gas hand go the other just about as fast when wide open. That thing had plenty of power and sounded like a race car back then. Wish I still had it.
