Default Overheating C7 Grand Sport on track

My 2017 Grand Sport automatic overheats during track days. Marketing this vehicle as "track ready" is a scam as the cooling system is cleary deficient. I should not have to spend $2,000+ getting a Dewitt radiator and other parts just so I can drive it 4-5 times a year on a track. Very disappointed and I would not have purchased this vehicle if I had been aware of this issue.

This is not a "question", but I'd like to point out that your solution would likely not work. I think I would add the AUX rad, and move the additional transmission cooler (which is what occupies the AUX rad's space) with an aftermarket cooler, further in the back, possibly by the rear spring. DeWitts rad will likely not solve anything.

Thanks. You are right - guess it's not a question. Just disappointed that this heavily marketed "track ready" car is not track ready for two 30 minute sessions without mods.

Anyways, thanks for the info.

I have a 2017 GS Z07 M7 that I supercharged (edelbrock), and have no overheating issues. I track this car on a regular basis when I can in the northeast. Not sure what your specific overheating issues are but I have none. I do at least 2 cool down laps if I'm running it real hard.

I was reading the manual last night and they recommend the manual transmission in hot conditions.

The Z06 has the same problems. Since they were introduced in 2015, many Z owners had the same issue you are reporting.

Default Z overheat fixed in later models

Z overheat was supposedly fixed in later models (2017>). Are you driving in automatic or paddle shifting?

Paddle shifting makes a big difference. Look at all the auto's they run at Spring Mountain in 100 degree plus heat with the AC on. They don't let you keep it in auto mode. On the other hand they are also not driving the cars at 9/10. But still these cars are running all day without overheating. The cheapest solution might be to just take it easy in hot weather.

What are the ambient temps and what are engine and trans oil temps? Is it the trans that is overheating?

you're the first person I've seen reporting a GS overheating on track. The owners manual does state that you should use a manual transmission to void overheating. But I'm sure many people use the A8 on track. What has your dealer said about this?

Same here with a '14 Z51 with an A6 transmission, which overheated while attending a PCA HPDE event, both ways it happened, once while paddle shifting and the other in auto in sport mode, it didn't make a difference same overheating, even Civics were able to finish, but not my car, it was a very bad scene in front of the other participants, very embarrassing, I left the event early, to don't damage my car.
Why in the hell GM sells automatic transmission Z51s, GS & Z06 Corvettes (supposedly track ready) that can not widstand track heat temperature and not set them with the right cooling, I was driving it during between High 80's-low 90s F external temp, until I began hearing the chime, an iddle engine, transmission hot sign came out, after doing a smoth cooling lap I left the track twice and iddle the engine with the hood open, I could hear the rear transmission fan running at high speed.
What a disappointment.
I bought a Sport car that is not a real sport car. Dam. Not even my '11 Mustang GT 5.0 or '02 Porsche 911 Carrera embarrassed me that way at the track.
I forget to mention, that I was at the track without a front plate for better ventilation. The transmission shifted perfectly at the track but just couldn't widstand the overheating at the track because of a lack of better cooling.

Did it give quantitative temperature ranges?

Just a thought

Were you running with the licence plate on?

The GS package comes with no additional cooling over the Z51 package.

I just ran eight 30-minute sessions in mid-90s with high humidity this weekend in my GS with no heating issues , but I am M7. Sure thrashed the tires though!!! I would think an auxiliary cooler would resolve the issue, but I agree you shouldn't have to. My car was definitely track ready.

I can over heat any car, just utilizing them upper RPM range with out letting the engines RPM drop, for an extended time. I don't think paddle shift an automatics is going to cool it down much. Just tooling around my neighborhood using the paddle make mine get hot, not over heating but I am not racing either.
