Default Torc converter shutter

2016 Z-06 A8
Have increasing shutter at different speeds. Dealer said it was the torc converter and that they will not replace it until they change the fluid in the converter, that it should take care of the problem. Any comments???

The dealer did the flush on my 16Z which took care of the shudder. Let them do it. You really have no choice. They aren't going to replace the tranny or torque converter until they do this first step.

I had mine flushed at the dealer 2 months ago. That fixed a hard downshift from second to first gear but the shudder is still there. I'll be taking it back next week to push to get the TC replaced

Just play their game it's two service appointments instead of one. Get it flushed. Been told by my Corvette tech that the flushes have worked everytime so far on the C7s the truck not so much. He said mileage has alot to do with it - the trucks have miles the vettes don't (according to him).

Just wanted to add in I dropped my C7 Z06 15" in on Monday for the Shutter as well and as of right now I have now not heard them say anything about the TQ for me. They went straight to the transmission. Things my car does is, 1 Under hard acceleration 3-4 gear sometimes it shifts really hard, seems to sometimes hold the gear than makes the thump sound/shutter then its in. 2 when putting it in Drive from reverse it takes a second to go into gear and then when it does the car jumps forward( this is when the car is warmed up sometimes and on cold start. My car has 12900 miles and is a auto.

That definitely sounds like a tranny problem, not the TC. On the other hand, a trans flush on mine fixed a hard downshift from second to first at slow speed coming to a stop, so I suppose either unit could be the culprit or both. These things are way more complicated than older auto transmissions that you could frequently repair yourself with the right tools and know-how..

I also have the shudder in my 16' C7Z, I had the fluid replaced (just a drain & fill, not the triple flush, dealer says GM is not doing the triple flush anymore), and it made the shudder slightly less noticeable, but still there.

My wife's 16' Camaro SS had the shudder, the dealer did the triple flush on that one and it solved the shudder for about 12k miles, then it came back with a vengeance. The dealer then replaced the converter and its been fine since...about 2k miles on it now.

Its not bad enough on my C7Z yet to justify the converter replacement, I really don't want them working on it but... it may happen.

And its not just an AFM thing on the C7Z....mine shudders in V8 mode often...hell it rarely even goes into V4 mode unless I'm coasting.

A fluid flush cannot repair "damaged" converter. I've heard the replacement fluid is a different spec, can anyone confirm a yes or no on this?

Mine has been flushed. I pick it up tomorrow. The shudder was every once in a while on the hwy. Higher gear when locked. I'll report back.

5800 miles but it did it since brand new. Just didnt know what it is. Chalked it up to many things. And it was very infrequent.

The A8 brought with it a new set of challenges for the software engineers and before they get resolved along comes two new A10's. The ZL1 has 10L90E while the SS and 6.2 trucks get the 10L80E.

Unfortunately that's not true if there's already been damage. I have a Range module on mine and it works great but did not cure the pre-existing shudder problem even after the triple flush had been done. I do agree though that defeating the AFM from when the car is new would probably avoid the problem from developing.

I drive my 16 mostly in manual with the hope of avoiding this problem. Shutter occurred any way. Had triple flush at 20,539. This didn't help. Replaced the converter at 25,100. Next 2,500 miles OK! Shutter is back worst than before. Mileage now 31,230. Dealership is deciding what to do next.

It's a damned shame that these cars should be plagued with bad wheels and torque converters. It really puts a damper on what is otherwise a great car. Have you tried disabling the AFM system with a Range module?
