Default Is my dealer ripping me off?

Car was in for an electrical issue and the dealer said they noticed the dry sump hose was dented.

They want to charge 3 labor hours to replace a hose. Part #22768510
https://www.gmpartsdirect.com/oem-pa...-hose-22768510

Anyone familiar with replacing this hose? Looks like a simple setup and I can't imagine it taking 3 hours, unless there's a bunch of things needed to remove to get access to the bolts.

Buy the hose and do it yourself.

car was already at the dealer for an unrelated issue. Oil is already drained when they caught the issue. What I want to know is how difficult it is to replace so I can decide if I am capable of doing it myself. I don’t have my car right now and can’t gauge how much work is needed to replace the hose.

If so, I’m going to have to have them fill it back up, drive it home, then drain the oil again to replace the hose.

More curious how did it dented? They are up and out of the way. DIY depends on what you're working with. If you can get car high enough and proper tools... And ability to call a friend if something "goes south".

i’m wondering as well. The only work I’ve done is oil changes, trans, diff fluid and installing a front splitter and side skirt.. none of which are near the hose.

I’ve had an alignment and new tires mounted at a shop. Car may have been lowered on the lowering bolts at some point by the previous owner. It may be possibly damaged before my ownership.

I have ramps and tools at home and generally will know what I can handle if I saw instructions on how to do it.

I would want to see the new hose to be sure its not a factory dent. Since it's "we happened to notice this" I would investigate it first at home on your ramps. Then decide how to proceed. I would also check if local dealer stocks the part.

Local dealer doesn't stock the part. It would have to be special ordered through Nevada. I'm assuming this is not a common issue.

Dealer says they would not recommend driving another mile with a dent in the dry sump hose. I'm having a feeling someone made a mistake as these hoses don't seem to bend themselves, but I can't put the blame on someone without having conclusive evidence.

That's odd to say don't drive another mile, especially if you've been driving it like that for how long? You might have bought the car with it dented, that's if it didn't happen at the dealer. Sounds like some BS.

That's how I feel. If it in fact been like this for some time, I've driven it hundreds of miles without issue. My fear is I decide to not listen to them, drive it home and my engine blows. I'm certain they'll deny a warranty claim and I'm out of an engine. Definitely sounds like some BS, but how do I prove that it wasn't me who caused the damage?

Perhaps I'll file a claim with the dealer.
I've bought 3 chevys from this dealer, but this is the first time having to use the actual Chevy dealer service. (went there because I had warranty, and ironically the work I wanted is not covered under the warranty) Will probably be the last time I'm going to this dealer as this service visit is leaving me with a sour taste in my mouth

Sounds like they are being thorough. At least they let you know, even if it is their fault or not. I would expect being ripped off by just going to the dealer alone.

I would be very calm, courteous, & basically beg them to fix this by explaining it wasn't bent when it came to them (otherwise how do they explain it is UN-DRIVEABLE-their words) & you have been driving it all this time including to them w/o any problems. I know a lot of folks will say GET IN THEIR S---T & DEMAND they fix for free but with age I have learned to try Mr. Nice Guy approach first. Hopefully you already have a good relationship with the dealer. You can always fall back to being a DICK if this Nice Guy approach doesn't work but you may have to deal with them in the future, so consider that.

IDK I have been looking for at pictures of dry sump on salvage parts for sale. I would have to look at where dent is and how much of a restriction. There appears to be factory bends or dents in the lines.

I think the main reason why I was a bit salty was because they wanted $900 to replace the telescoping wheel actuator out of warranty. I called another dealer 40 miles away from me and they quoted me $550. I told my service guy and he said he'd knock off 10%. Better than nothing I guess...

A good relationship? Not really as I do most the maintenance on the cars myself and only go there for electrical related or warranty related issues. But I have purchased 3 of my last Chevys from there since 2012.

Just curious, why wouldn’t this be covered by the factory warranty?

They didn't see it as a manufacturer defect. May be the result of a bad mechanic that the previous owner used.

Sounds like the job should be expected to take about 3 hours.
