Default Knock Knock... Who's there?

Rewind to March 30th, 2018. My c6 developed a top end noise that was a suspected lifter. Dealer tore down top end to reveal one of #8's lifter ate itself and the cam.

~1,400 miles it states "Engine Replacement"

~1,480 miles it states "Lifter Replacement Both Sides"

~2,000 miles it states "Lifter Replacement Both Sides"
~82,795 mi miles states Camshaft replaced

https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...end-noise.html

Fast Forward to Sept 13th, 2018 and guess what's back? A lifter noise on the Cylinder #3.

Car currently has just under 91,000 miles now. Dealer extended the warranty out to 140,000 miles after last issue. The Cam, lifters on both sides, Both heads sent off to be checked, one head repaired. They did not even drop the pan or flush the oil passages as far as I know to reduce metal shavings, something I warned them 100x about doing. Their response was, "We do hundreds of these repairs and no issues happen".

I am pretty furious this will be the 4th time this car has had it's top end replaced.

Any thoughts on how to deal with this? I'm going to give them the option to either put a new engine in it or buy the car back.

I somehow doubt they'll buy it back, but it may be worth a shot. If you've been cordial with them, maybe it's time to have a very nice, very cordial session with them on what MIGHT happen AFTER the warranty expires and that the car's engine has issues that will eventually cost you! Don't mention the word "lawyer". Don't even think it right now.

I may have a suggestion for you and if I do, I'll send you a PM since you have no email add listed in your profile.

Nope, no other ideas. On thinking about it some more the dealer may just replace the engine rather than messing with the engine again. I am surprised he's doing it though with a tune and headers...lucky you. Must be something he knows about for sure. Good luck.

IMHO...there were shavings not flushed from last time. Perhaps a calm conversation with the dealer about an engine replacement. But, even with that, all the lines, coolers, etc need to be flushed/replaced. Good luck.

Bank that the problem what when the engine was replaced, the oil cooler and the oil cooler lines where not replaced as well.

Hence when engine goes, it shoots slivers through the oil line and coolers, and since there is not way to clean such out, you have to replace them during engine replacement as well. If you don't replace them, they you end up with the slivers dislodge to cause the damage over again. Hence two sets of lifters in less than 2K miles tells the story.

As for motor now, needs to be replace again, and this time around, the oil cooler and oils as well.

They were nice enough to extend the warranty an additional 40,000 miles after I voiced that concern to them.

Engine has yet to be replaced. It's just been parts thrown at it to fix the issue.

Apparently "Low oil" caused my pushrod to bend. Not buying the cause.

not buying it either, but also looks like a fair amount of "debris" on the rocker arm, possibly from lack of regular oil changes..................

Changed it 5000 miles like in the owners manual, but since I do not have the receipts to prove it, they said no to warranty work.

My way of dealing with... dump it after first repair. It’s cursed. Never shove good money after bad money. The rabbit hole is endless as your are finally coming to grips with.

Went up to the dealer yesterday to verify their claims of "Low Oil". Pulled the dipstick out and it was all the way to the top dot.

Whole inside of the valve cover is covered in metal particles. The valve where the issue happened, the locks are covered in trash. There's part of what looks like a thread chilling in the head.

Talking with my airplane mechanics at work, they're thinking the lifter stuck open, piston slapped the valve and forced it to collapse again.

~$1100 out of warranty repair, but I'm not having them do plug wires because they want $306 for a set....

I would get rid of the car, but I still owe more than I would like before a trade in.

LS3.

Dealer just called and said that Chevy is replacing under warranty.... I give it another 1000-1500 miles before something else breaks.

Make sure that the oil cooler lines and the oil cooler is replaced as well.

Without such, all the crap that has collected in them, is going to break free again over time, and will kill the new engine as well.

Also, do not allow them to reuse the old valve covers, nor the valley cover. All of these have oil baffles that will collect with the same shavings/debris that are not easy to clean out, and they too will just dump the debris out over time back into the new engine as well.

Received the car back today less than an hour ago and it already started misfiring and you can hear the lifters having a fit. Took it to a closer dealership and the guy said he could hear it running like ****, once he pulled up the record he literally said holy **** this car is fucked. Cheers!

Contacted GM Warranty and now the dealerships group owner. Wish me luck!
