Boosted Z51 Toyo R888 tires on rear and MPSS on front ok???
Hey all
Got my vette back a couple of weeks ago after an ECS/Meth install and we came out with just under 700 rwhp . The power add is not helping my traction but its very drivable . I do have 2 vehicles but i like driving the vette around and in florida I don't want to get caught with DR's in the rain
I have a pair of 315/30/20 R888 with about 60% tread from my last ride that i was going to install for a few months and get an idea of what its like before i pull the the trigger on a brand new set
Will i be ok with front and rear brand mismatch, front are 245/35/19 MPSS, over 100mph in a straight line ok ?

Should be fine. Many run the newer r888r on high hp cars if they don't want drag radials. Very grippy.

Are those MPSS run flats up front? If so you will NOT be okay. I tried that trick last month and the cars *** was wagging all over at 100+. If they are not run flats up front youll be fine.

why do you think it makes a difference? At proper air pressure you shouldn't be able to tell the difference between zp and nonzp. Specially not in a straight line. That makes no sense.

You will create massive understeer in corners due to the grip difference. I would expect if your diameters are not out of wack, you should be fine in a straight line.

I didn't want to believe it would cause an issue myself. I didn't take the advice of a lot of respected members on here and gave it a try. I do a lot of Mexico 40-140 pulls with the locals and the car got more and more unstable. It was okay to around 100 but when i pushed it up to 130 i thought i was going to lose control, scary unstable. That was on a straight away. I called Toyo tech and they told my stability issue was 100% due to mixing run flats with non run flats. The side wall rigidity differences with the non and run flats to run flats multiples with speed causing the rear of the car to wag and gets worse as you try to correct the issue. A simple search on the forum will confirm this. I replaced the run flats up front with non run flats like in the rear and the car is completely stable again at high speeds.

I've never liked mixing compounds/brands for the street and for me,mixing RF's and non RF's is not something I would do.

It is fine guys... will the car corner as well as before? No, but the street isn't a racetrack and you won't be hitting the limit of cornering G's on the off ramp. For driving around town they will be 100% fine. He isn't taking this combo to a road course and it will do fine in a straight line. I drag race all the time with MPSS up front.

I went and picked up a front set of the new Toyo Sports at 285/30R19. I didn’t want the noise up front and those Toyo Sport tires are known for being quite and grippy. The R888R are actually not loud at all when in rear only.

I was told by some guys at the track that it has something to do with the stiff sidewall on a run flat also...

Don't mix DR and run flats. I thought no way it will matter. I was wrong. Car was scary to drive and not any fun. I almost lost it at the track on my first pass with this set up. I took off the run flats up front and car went straight with no swaying back and forth. Running Toyo R888R s for everyday driving and have nitto o5r drag radials for the rear for track time.
