Love Bob Lutz he has been involved with BMW and the M3 and so many manufacturers. One thing we need to relize that the FE is toast and in 2009 the C7 was going to be the ME and the only thing that stoped it was the bankruptcy.

Bob mentions that before the bankruptcy the rear mid engine corvette would only cost five grand more than the front mid engine corvette withcomparable equipment...

add mrc, dct and maybe z51 heavy duty coolers, brakes and suspension and we have the proce of the c8 starting msrp...according to Mr Lutz...

should revolutionize the sports car market...come 2019 calendar year or 2020 model year delivery time frame...

Agree, there is more truth in that interview than all the "in the know people" who have posted here. There is no way hell Lutz doesn't know what is going on at GM even 8 years removed. This should put to rest the "it's going to be priced at or near 100k" crowd. Given the price point Lutz talks about, it should also put to rest the FE C8 crowd. Unfortunately, it won't. I'm sure both will still be here until the official announcement is made.

I would honestly love to see the Cadillac mockup they made. I really hope it gets shown somewhere or somehow once the Corvette gets official.

He said it will have an LS3 with 420 hp.... Doubtful.....

especially with those older styling cues... (bold, american, cts gen ll)
this is one of my greatest wish ..to see these never born cars that gm never showed to the public

today i have seen a cts ll (beautiful and sophisticated automobile) and for the first time in my life a c7. that thing is gorgeous!!!! absolutely phenomenal. i have seen it from quite some distance...it was blue. holy corvette... you can show me any r8 or aston martin 11...the corvette design is far superior!!!! i dont even understand how can someone choose anything else in that price range...
it is elegant, bold, stylish...it demands attention
oh sorry, i just got a little carried away with the c7

That's not what he said. He is talking in the present tense about the current situation and saying that he guesses that the car will be $5k more than a C7. Go to 12:45 and listen again.

It would be interesting to know if he had some talks with current management as to what he should and should not say. My guess is yes.

Sad that they crushed most of those older "concept" models some were kept but others are in Cavaliers, Vegas, etc

Great info..I think one of the best takeaways for me would be the justification for a comparably priced C8 to the C7 models. It was suggested that because of the aluminum tub of the C7 and C8 as opposed to the all carbon fiber tubs of the more expensive ME’s, would suggest that the difference in that cost alone could provide the C8 with a more affordable difference as a result. So an affordable C8 ME probably is the future. Thanks GM

I think Bob is starting to slip a little bit.
He has been saying since the initial announcement by Musk years ago, Tesla couldn't make cars that people will buy.

Great to listen to Bob. Bob knows the story even though he's pretending to speculate. Two years ago my neighbor, who was high up at GM (now retired), said the entry level price of the C8 will be only a bit above the C7 base, there will be a gas electric hybrid with 1,000 hp and active aero. Here's Bob saying the same+/-.

Funny Bob story - Circa 2008/09 I was shopping for a new car. I really liked the CTS (had just come out) but I was looking for a bigger engine then the V6 but didn't was the V to drive everyday. My neighbor's email address was first.last@gm.com. I decided to try emailing Bob to suggest a naturally aspirated V8 in the CTS. It worked! He received it and responded. He said let me know there was not a plan in the works for what I was looking for and suggested I buy a G8 or a Camaro. I thought that was kinda cool for him to have responded. Wound up buying the V anyway.

Great video, a complete overview of the past/present/future of the automotive industry. Bob loves the Pontiac Solstice - the GM dealer network killed that car with markups, I tried to buy one and had to walk away.

Bob L also had great points about car ownership and the direction of the automobile. How every one is focused on the payments not as much with MSRP and true ownership, cars are becoming more like expensive appliances. Eventually autonomous automobiles will be the death of many manufacturers as we know them today. I can see it now honey I am taking my Google/Apple car to work O No please just shoot me!

C7 is done, we live in a great time when we can buy 4 door sedans & suv’s that are faster than our last generation Corvettes. The ME will be just 5k give or take a few thousand more than the C7 today and GM will follow the same trajectory as the C6,C7 with its models. Sounds like Cosworth will be building some aspects of the double overhead cam motors which will be in the faster Z versions of the ME. I can’t see the C7 being produced for much longer as way to many of them are sitting on dealer lots. GM spent a lot of money to upgrade the plant, today car manufacturers don’t wait to get paid on those investments like they did a decade ago. I truly believe the ME is closer to production than many of us think. Get you names on the ME wait list or if you're still wanting an FE you better do it sooner than later because change is coming faster than you think.

fwiw..no interior space for stuff...the really really cheap plastics in the interior, the weird rear opening trunk that required popping the canvas roof sail panels didnt help sales.

i drove one of the gxp turbos when they went on fire sale..it was a nice fun car to drive with the turbo.

I didnt buy it but man it was a hell of a deal.

the kids just dont aspire to own sports cars any more

from a looks, price and even performance perpsectice the solstice gxp was a hell of a car.

the turbo coupes with manuals are as bob mentions quite rare and they were pretty but the targa roof didnt fit in the car. That was so they could continue to sell them under the safety standards of convertibles,

Bobs great.. i dint agree with him on tesla or on the fact americans are moving away from car ownership for a long long time.

i did find his statement hiw a luxury brand lease could cost less per month than a lower oriced vehicle lease. I believe his example was a mercedes e or c class versus a chevy..

its true the subsidized rates of near luxury and luxury brands often is equal to or even slightly less than american branded products...

i believe GM s moves into ride sharing and re leasing preowned lightly used vehicles with an extended warranty could resolve that foreign brand subsidized lease situation.

surprisingly corvette buyers tend to jot buy by monthly payment as often as other brands...

they usually oay cash in full at time of purchase...

Bob suggests a five grand price increase over a similarly option front engine corvette makes the most semse.

hopefully one day we will at least get to see the cadillac concept vehicle styling..

he spoke of the cadillac version quite nicely.

id be interested in seeing it.
