How can you tell if fiberglass is to far gone to restore?
I have a Baldwin Motion hood, I'm guessing a reproduction hood that I got with the car when I bought it a few years ago. The hood is old, so would be a old reproduction hood. The hood is rough on top, how can you tell if it's to far gone to restore?

Well im jelous of your phase hood,
Motion farmed out their fiberglass, some was heavy, resin rich chopper, water thin gel some was nicer hand laid,
Normally if the gel is all gone and the fibers are all like a half shaved gorilla its judgement call, it might could be saved but no way to know what contaminants got in the fibers that can return to haunt.
The best vette restorer i ever met had a wide body 78pc an eccentric guy left for strip and paint, the guy vanished and dave stored the car for oh about 30 years, 20 of it outside,
It cooked all the paint and most gel off,
Weird long story short dave said the car was toast, part it out as junk, not worth trying to save,
So like i said judgement call and each case can be different.

Not furry at all, and it does have a hole in it from what looks like a Tach was mounted. May just need a good block standing. Also, it's very lite.

Top side doesn't look too bad. Under side is going to need some work

Nothing a bit of time a patience won't fix. Seen worse than that bought back to life. These modern 2 pack sealers/ high fill under coats could help here. Just ensure no contaniments in any areas with exposed fivers:- you don't want to entrap any future problems. Done a lot of this, time and patience, and you'll be right mate

My 68 did not have gel, I soda blasted it to the fiberglass hairs.
Needed to be epoxy primed from there, or gel coated.
I don't think the painter did either. I am starting to see the fibers under the shiny paint now.
