Default Corvette 1994 steering column disassembly

Hi guys,

I need to disassembly steering column to fix loose steering wheel, but I don't know how to remove this part marked red on the picture.

Does anybody know how to remove this?

Thanks a lot in advance.

U- tube has plenty of videos for GM type columns disasembly. Most are amaturish and none are for Corvettes but you get to see how it's done and should be able to sort it using the videos.

Good luck.

FSM for a 94 would help you. I did '91 (slightly different, I don't remember that metal plate) there was a lock clip holding the coil. I can't remember if I had to push parts a little to remove to lock. Those two rounds things look strange.. Sure they aren't anti-tampering screws?

I have FSM for 1994 but I can't see this metal plate in it. It looks on some U tube clips that this part came out with steering wheel.

Found a photo of a 94 steering wheel on ebay, I don't think that plate is part of it. I'd try pushing, if there's a lock clip it should be visible. If that doesn't work I'd take pliers and see if the two round things are some sort of screws.

I looked through a lot of videos and practically memorized Jazzman's guide to saginaw tilt assemblies and don't remember ever seeing a plate like that, weird. Also the column parts were nicely finished, that plate is.. not.

If it’s like earlier GM steering columns, you need to compress the spring behind the sector plate and push it forward, which will allow you to remove the C-clip with a small screwdriver and/or needle nose pliers.

Someone cut the center out of a steering wheel. You need to use a puller to get it off. Good luck!
