Hey folks. I ordered an AIM for those of you who have advised me to do so. This is a question of what is it?? What are these shiny things that appear to be on some type of strap? 63 Roadster.

Seriously. I have a 63 and I’m not sure what you’re seeing. The top side of the wheel well should have some undercoating to prevent flung rocks from doing damage. Perhaps somebody added something ?

If I'm seeing the picture correctly, I think those are the outer shims for the left rear trailing arm going into the frame.

Trailing arm shims, used to align the rear suspension.

Thanks. Again it is the left rear wheel. I never noticed them before which is also odd as they are so shiny. I guess this means a trip to an expert shop not the local dude.

Are you saying they used front shims on the rear?

Theu type of shims are used on the front and I’ve used them other places. I’d have to dig out my spare trailing arms shims but I think they’re rectangular.

Doubt that - they would have to be way too long for front end shims to protrude out that far.

STOP!

They are original 1963 rear alignment shims, don't remove them and they ARE installed correctly. That's how is was for 1963, you don't need to improve them your car will be fine.

These shims set the track and rear toe in of the rear tires.

Are you serious ?
If so I'll delete my mis-information above....
If Rich Yanulis gets on here this am then maybe he can verify...on his survivor car....

Apologies to the OP if I've got it wrong...

You are correct. The 1st design shims for 63 look exactly like those in FJD's image in post #6. I think the design changed to the squared off design some time around March or April of 63.
