Yes, you are safe. There is a lot of fret and worry over the HB, but it will not grenade on you, unless it is really bad, and you are racing. Lots of people drive 100K with wobble (not noise) with no worries.

get it fixed sooner than later, mine shifted and caused the belt to squeal then it tore apart....the debris hit my ac wire connection and destroyed it. That is a one pc clutch/connector for the ac and added another $400 to the price of the balancer.

The noise your hearing is coming from the belt tensioner. So when the HB is being replaced, make sure that at least replace the tensioner pulley with bearings, or the entire tensioner as well.

As for dealer, unless they can install a Power bond PB117SS (not another oem HB or the power bond PB117N) then would for another shop that will install a Power bond PB117SS. Hence the OEM, and the power bond PB117N which is just another copy of the OEM, will have the same problem about the same mileage as when the first HB gave up the ghost.

On the SS unit, it has a fange on the back side, C ring on the front side, both which sister the outer pulley to the inner hub, which prevents the HB from wobbling in the first place, and later as well.

I realize that a belt tensioner can make a noise....but it was my understanding that the "TYPICAL" squealing that accompanies "MOST" of these H/B issues is due to the belt rubbing against the side of the pully........

I just had a local performance shop here in Florida install a new harmonic balancer on my 2011 GS.
I also had the HB pinned since I will be installing a supercharger myself.

This can give someone here an idea of what I paid:

$ 223 . . . . . PowerBond Race Performance Harmonic Balancer . . (P/N: PB1117SS)
$ . 93 . . . . . ARP Crankshaft Bolt, GM Timing Cover Seal and Pinning Kit
$ 593 . . . . . Labor Charge with Tax . . (Labor is taxed in Florida)
_____
$ 909 . . . . . Total Cost

what kind of noise are you getting, I'm getting a squeaking noise, changed both belt tensioners, both belts and the idler pulley and still have it. The previous owner replaced had the Hb replaced and gave me the receipts, i'm at a lost

You need to look at the balancer when the engine is idling.

If it's wobbling, you need a new balancer ... simple as that

If the replacement balancer was a GM part, it could already be bad again. Take a look and see if it is wobbling. Some here have replaced a GM balancer in as little as 4,000 miles and several have replaced it more than one time. If you need a balancer again, buy an aftermarket part like Powerbond or ATI.

If the previous owner replaced with the OEM balancer then it could be going bad again. The OEM HB is trash. Upgrade to an aftermarket that won't go bad.

I will check it out, Theres only been 3000 miles on it since it was replaced. That was the last thing I thought of checking. Do they make a squeaking noise similar to belt tensioner going bad

This is what my '07 with 36,000 miles sounded and looked like. I was replaced with an ATI... total was $900 parts and labor.

This is what it's like now!!!

I also recommend ATI SuperDampr. You can go with a slight under drive as well without affecting your accessories while increasing rev response You can purchase from LG - they will recommend the correct unit with ARP bolt. Any dealer known for decent Corvette sales and support will have a guy that can do the install and pin the crank. With a new gates green series belt, you are all in just under $1,000

When it comes off it can do a lot more damage by the serpentine belt slinging around and the balancer grinding against the cross member than the $75 or so the rollback will cost. I put an ATI balancer on mine when I did a cam job.
