Default Electrical Gremlin works on my last nerve

Here's an interesting problem that has been discussed before but I'm not sure how it all might apply to my 2007 c6. Sometimes, usually the first door opening, I'll hear a "bump" noise - just once & very low base and is attention getting - but other times it may have more "static" to it. If I'm not mistaken I've heard it on pressing the ignition button. ALL FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE SPEAKER. I believe I even may have heard the "bump" when I opened my trunk. Any of The Forum's thoughts and teachings on this pain in the ear would be helpful!

The cause of it all - blown Bose amp on passenger side. Now, thankfully cured. Now the only popping noises are from my new Borla touring muffs.

Glad culprit was isolated to a Bose amp/speaker.
Out on a lovely early Saturday cruising w/ fav XM on.
Suddenly a LOUD thumping, exactly what a flat at speed sounds like.
But I run RFs & no DIC, genuine WTF moment.

Was D/S Bose amp, it went south.

So it is the amp and not the actual speaker?

I will head up to the shop in a couple of hours and will find out the whole story. Could be the speaker. They also mentioned something about the negative connection to the batt. Some months ago I went to AutoZone and had a new one put in. l'll do a burn out in their parking lot, go home and report back.

A bad ground(s) can cause all sorts of odd problems, even on pre-electronic vehicles. Potential problems must be some magnitude greater on modern vehicles.

I know this is right! Took me about 5 years of bull headedness (is that a word) in my early wrenching days when chasing electric issues before I would always start checking the grounds first.

Exactly! I went through the same learning process, although I cannot recall how many years it took.

Made it back and took the long way home. The LONG way home.

Well here's the story. I've got a nice big speaker for a souvenir. I am assuming it was the amp in the speaker that blew. That Bose is expensive and it was replaced. The mechanic also said I've been happily driving around with the negative cable to the battery just sitting on top of its post. Apparently I never did put much of a drag on the batt voltage to cause the car to shut down. That may or may not have caused or contributed to my these electrical issues. As many times as I have looked in the engine bay I saw nothing. Then again - that neg cable is sort of tucked under and out of the way. The loud popping/static noises are gone now when I open the doors or the trunk. Got the oil changed after 1 year and appr. 4000 miles.
