Default Worst Part of Driving a Grand Sport On Track

People think you're a Z06 and they don't lift! This is the only time I wish I had more horsepower. Well, maybe not the only, but definitely when I wish it the most... Maybe a forum vendor can produce a sticker for the top of the windshield that can be read from a rear view mirror that says "NOT A Z06, PLEASE LIFT"

In case the video is TL;DW - Not racing. HPDE. Passing with a point-by only. If you give the car behind you a point-by, lift the gas pedal a bit so the passing car can safely complete the pass. Of course you decide how much to lift based on the expected capabilities of the passing car. That's the "issue" I'm raising here. Not really a serious concern...

Yep, I’m often forced, to “take” the corner. Fast cars move over but don’t lift and walk away lol. I also deflate a lot of egos when I get the often said in the pits,”at least I got passed by a Z06”.

Are you really on the track expecting people to lift for you?

haha... "misplaced expectations" got me a new paint job after passing a guy who didn't lift.
granted, it woulda helped if i'd done better brakes & tires at the same time as my extra power

OP is referring to catching folks because he knows how to drive better thru the turns & catches faster cars, then they wave him/her by on the straight but OP (in GS) doesn't have enough power to overtake him (lead car) if it's a car with more HP/Torque that can out accelerate the GS. I wish people would lift when I pass them on the roads. They speed up when I start my pass. A red neck in a pickup truck towing his fishing boat floored it when i passed him. People are nuts.

What's a Redneck? I resemble that remark since I also own a '07 F-150 for towing my White River trout boat here in ARKANSAS! Surely you don't have Rednecks in Wisconsin!

Not sure on the redneck thing, not going there, but I run into these types ALL THE TIME in my GS. The car draws attention and it’s not always good. I always end up asking myself why? No idea.

The difference between traveling in my Silverado 3500HD Dually and the GS is night and day. The truck is custom and very sharp too, but I don’t get agressive and\or stupid human tricks from other drivers while I’m driving the truck, who we affectionately call Thor.

The one thing that really gets my BP up is the driver that comes charging up from behind in the left lane and then matches my speed just off my bumper in my driver’s side blind spot. They will hang there for miles while I motor along with my cruise control going and I have to make a move with speed or brakes to avoid the car I’m catching up to. Again asking myself why? Watching the car in motion? Admittedly an entertaining site, but how about you move out of my blind spot? And yes, it’s that spot that is a blind spot in just about any car. I’ve installed convex blind spot mirrors to help.

I understood what you meant, and agree with your notion of how to behave in HPDE. This is particularly important if you are just getting started on the track with your C7 and those dang Miata's are on your tail for half a lap of corners. When you get to the straight, give them a point by and let WAY off the throttle so they can get by. Be patient, it can take a while. Then follow them through the corners, and learn how to drive your car.

Dude I'm surrounded by them. I live out in the country. They will race you in your corvette with their pickups towing their fishing boats. Just a little more throttle and I pull right away.

It is common courtesy that is mentioned in all of the driver meetings and when Instructors are riding in the car they need to tell their student to lift a little to let the guy by. There is no sense giving a passing signal and then not letting the person behind you pass. In some groups you can get black flagged if you pull that trick too often. It is considered to be very discourteous especially if the car that has caught you is similarly or lower powered than yours. If they catch you it isn't because the Track God put them there. They are driving faster and you are holding them up.

In the video I posted from this year's NCM event at VIR you can see me clearly lift off the throttle to give Poor-Sha a clear pass coming off of the Oak Tree corner even though he is driving a ZR1 and I am driving a Z06. Just common courtesy and safety.

Bill

That's certainly what I was thinking at the time! Would a Z06 have been able to make the pass? Or at least closed the gap enough to avoid the Audi TT changing his mind on the point-by? How often do Z06 drivers experience this? A Z06 may be in my future, but seems like this could happen in almost any car.
