Default Carbon Fiber Element Steering Wheel

I was inspired by one of our members here to have CFE build me a custom wheel for my '14 Stingray. The hand and foot controls of a car are what we interact with most (besides our behinds ) so I tend to look for shifter and steering wheel upgrades to enhance the experience. My C7 is my dd.

I sent CFE a core I had bought a while back that had the controls and bezel still attached. CFE used the core to build me a kick-azz replacement for my stocker including black perf leather with black thread, gloss CF upper and lower sections along with gloss CF bezel and paddles. The lower section is flattened. Thought about going with a leather airbag cover but didn't want to risk compromising the airbag functionality.

Wheel turned out great and was easy to install. Hardest part was releasing the airbag to pull it out of the stock wheel. It feels much nicer than my stock wheel since the girth of the ring is increased and the side grips are reshaped to provide more positive grip. I love it. Pricing was definitely much higher than many are willing to fork over but this is my dd and I spend a lot of time hanging on to that wheel every day.

Vice nice! You should consider getting a carbon fiber dash to match it.

Have considered it but decided against it for a couple of reasons. 1) I've had my fill of pulling dashes apart over the years and, 2) I keep hearing of them delaminating.

They do look nice, though.

Wonder if it is an actual delamination of the carbon fiber or is it the carbon fiber is actually detaching itself from what it is glued to? This would suggest either an adhesive selection problem or poorly applied adhesive. Carbon fiber is real tough stuff. Haven't seen any pictures on the forum of carbon fiber parts delaminating or degrading. Adhesion problems are more common.

Ed, as beautiful as that steering wheel is, I would SERIOUSLY consider the dash, center console and waterfall for your car. I would also highly suggest consider getting a leather horn pad. Notice that the ONLY thing on your wheel that's plastic is the horn pad! Now consider it.....

Got it, Steve, however; I'm saving for a C8 now.

^^^ They're not too expensive. It wouldn't hurt your C8 savings.....

Besides, if you can spend all that money for your steering wheel, you'll have some for the horn pad.

Greeeeeat looking steering wheel. Tony has done it once again👍. Like you patches, I also stopped adding mods due to the c8 coming soon. 😅. The steering wheel is definetly a must have though.

Is that the same weave and finish as the factory carbon fiber dash? If so, who makes that?

Gorgeous! But I agree. Do the horn pad. And when you get your C8 look me up and maybe I’ll buy that wheel from you, lol
